Penguins vs Jets Best bet: Jets -1.5 (+140)
Would you have bet on the Pittsburgh Penguins being atop the NHL standings a month into the season?
I know I wouldn’t. In fact, I’m still not sold on the Pens being a playoff team.
The Penguins will face one of their toughest tests so far when they take on the red-hot Winnipeg Jets this afternoon.
Pittsburgh has certainly had a hot start, but I’m not sure it’s totally sustainable. The Penguins currently own the NHL’s best save percentage (.921) and the second-highest shooting percentage (13.9).
Flip back to last season, and the Penguins — with largely the same roster — ranked 28th and 20th in those categories, respectively.
The Jets are 8-2-0 over their last 10 and have won three straight meetings vs. the Penguins, outscoring them 12-5 in the process. Winnipeg will skate away with two points on Saturday.
Penguins vs Jets same-game parlay
Kyle Connor and Mark Scheifele were dominant in Thursday’s 6-3 win against the Blackhawks, logging three points apiece. Scheifele has recorded 2+ points in three of his last four games, while Connor has also found the score sheet in four straight.
The Jets duo has outscored the opposition 15-9 at even strength, and they’ll get the best of any matchup the Penguins can throw at them.
