Oilers vs Blues Odds, Picks, and Predictions Tonight: Binnington Closes the Door on Edmonton

Edmonton hits the road for the first time all season and heads over to St. Louis. These teams met just four days ago where the Blues blanked the Oilers, and our NHL betting picks believe Oil Country will run into similar problems once again.

The Edmonton Oilers hit the road to take on the St. Louis Blues, looking to capture revenge against the team who blanked them 2-0 just four days ago.

After being shut out by Jordan Binnington, Edmonton erupted for six goals against Pittsburgh's Tristan Jarry. Can it put that offense in a bottle and carry it across the border, or will that scoring prowess be kept in Canada?

Find out in our NHL betting picks and predictions for Oilers vs. Blues on October 26.

Oilers vs Blues picks and predictions

Edmonton is 3-3-0 entering this matchup, but that has nothing to do with its inability to score. Shocker. Once again, the Oilers can score with the best of them but they can't keep the puck out of the net.

This team is averaging 3.67 goals per game and has scored five or more goals three times already — all in wins. The games the Oilers couldn't reach that five goal-plateau? All losses. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to realize how problematic Edmonton's defensive play is. That's the pillar that has held this team back for several seasons in a row, and right now it looks like nothing has changed.

Jack Campbell was supposed to be the answer to all of Edmonton's problems, but the 30-year-old netminder currently sits with a 3.61 GAA and .895 SV% — and his 8.84 expected goals against at 5v5, per Natural Stattrick, shows us those numbers are right on par with what he should be at and are not due to bad luck.

Now, let's take a look at who Edmonton will be facing. Oh look, it's the team that blanked the Oilers just four days ago! The Blues went north of the border last week and left with two points off of a 23-save performance from Jordan Binnington.

The St. Louis netminder has been a stud to start the season, posting a 1.65 GAA and .940 SV%. Small sample size, yes, but his No. 7 ranked .938 high-danger save percentage at even strength proves to us that Binnington has been at his best thus far. Now, he faces a potent offense who he's already shut out once this week, and he'll look to do it again.

Let's take a quick look at the previous matchup between these sides to help us paint a better picture. This matchup was as close as the 2-0 score indicates. Edmonton outshot the Blues 23-22 and had nine high-danger scoring chances compared to St. Louis' eight. But, as discussed, Binnington has been really good in those scenarios.

Looking at these stats, it looks like Campbell's 20-save performance was an outlier to his numbers, and Binnington's were right on track. Campbell outplayed his numbers to keep this game as close as it was. With all signs pointing to these two netminders matching up again, I'll back the better goalie — and in my opinion, the better overall roster.

Oilers vs Blues moneyline analysis

This game stands as a near pick'em with Edmonton as the slight road favorites. Several books are offering St. Louis at plus money and I would jump on those numbers as soon as possible. The Blues are 3-1 on the season and have already beaten this team on the weekend.

The Oilers' offense is explosive, but St. Louis has the tools to hold them at bay and enough offensive tools of its own to beat a shaky Jack Campbell. This will be Edmonton's first game on the road after opening the campaign with a six-game homestand. Meanwhile, the Blues are returning from a three-game road trip so they'll be more than excited to play in front of their fans again.

Expect St. Louis to lock down the Oilers once again and pick up another two points against its Western Conference foes.

Oilers vs Blues Over/Under analysis

The Edmonton Oilers and Unders seem to mix as well as oil and water, but that may be the way to go in this game. The total of 6.5 seems to be a hard number to obtain when a goalie as good as Binnington is involved in the equation, even with an offense as potent as Edmonton's.

It's also important to note, again, this is the first time the Oilers have hit the road this season, and St. Louis is returning from a three-game road trip. Expecting these teams to come out flying may be asking for too much.

The Oilers are 3-2-1 to the Over this season, while the Blues are 2-2. These teams also played a 2-0 final on Saturday, so it's hard to imagine these offenses just blowing by 6.5. The Under is priced at plus money for this matchup, so playing that way seems like a great play.

Once again, betting Unders on any Oilers game makes me uneasy, so I'll most likely steer clear of this total and just go with my best bet.
