The Buffalo Sabres host the Philadelphia Flyers in the first game of Wednesday’s TNT doubleheader.

Buffalo enters this game in good form, and my Flyers vs. Sabres predictions expect this trend to continue.

Read on for my NHL picks for Wednesday, January 14.

Flyers vs Sabres prediction

Flyers vs Sabres best bet: Sabres moneyline (-150)

One of the hottest teams in hockey, the Buffalo Sabres have won 13 of their past 15 games. Dominant offensive play has fueled that run, with Buffalo averaging 3.7 goals per game over that stretch.

The Sabres’ underlying metrics suggest that this offensive success is likely to continue. Entering this matchup, Buffalo ranks 10th in expected goals for per 60 minutes (xGF/60).

That figure is significantly higher than the Philadelphia Flyers’, as they rank 28th in the same category. Subsequently, the Sabres also outrank the Flyers in expected goal share.

Buffalo has also received strong goaltending from Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, who is expected to start on Wednesday. Luukkonen has allowed just one goal in three of his past six starts, posting a 5-1 record with a .930 save percentage and a 2.18 goals-against average over that span.

Meanwhile, goaltender Dan Vladar is slated to start for Philadelphia. Over his past three starts against the Sabres, Vladar owns a .892 save percentage.
