The Edmonton Oilers look to pick up their first win of the season when they welcome the Vancouver Canucks to Rogers Place tonight.

Both clubs got off to high-scoring starts in their season openers, and I’ll be looking for the goals to keep flowing in my Canucks vs. Oilers predictions.

Without further ado, here are my NHL picks for Saturday, October 11.

Canucks vs Oilers prediction

Canucks vs Oilers Best bet: Over 5.5 (-135)

The Edmonton Oilers fell to the Calgary Flames 4-3 in a shootout during Wednesday’s season opener, but the stars definitely came out to play. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins led the way with a goal and two assists, while Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl had two points apiece.

Meanwhile, the Vancouver Canucks also flexed their offensive muscle in their opener vs. Calgary on Thursday, as Filip Chytil scored a pair of goals in a 5-1 win.

Tonight’s total is set at a modest 5.5 goals, and these Canadian clubs should smash that number at Rogers Place.

Edmonton is clearly leaning on McDavid and Draisaitl hard, as the duo combined for over 50 minutes of ice time in their season-opening loss. They have historically dominated the Canucks — Draisaitl boasts 59 career points in 48 meetings vs. Vancouver, while McDavid has 68 points in 42 games, the highest total by any active player.

The Canucks also shouldn’t have too much of a problem getting the puck past Oilers starter Calvin Pickard, who posted a .900 SV% last year.

Canucks vs Oilers same-game parlay

The Oilers enter tonight’s matchup as the sizable -175 favorite on home ice. Draisaitl and McDavid should be able to exert their will and carry Edmonton to its first win of the season.

Draisaitl eclipsed 1.5 points in each of his three meetings vs. the Canucks last season, while Quinn Hughes found the score sheet in all three of those games as well.
