Blues vs Avalanche Odds, Picks, and Predictions Tonight: Colorado Takes Out Frustrations on St. Louis

The Avalanche need a win to solidify their playoff position — our NHL picks think that's exactly what's going to happen against a Blues side that won't be able to stop the onslaught of goals.

The St. Louis Blues and Colorado Avalanche are both coming off of horrible losses that they quickly want to forget about. The Blues lost 5-0 on the road in Arizona against the Coyotes and the Avalanche fell to the Anaheim Ducks — to make matters worse, it was on home ice.

This season’s first two meetings were interesting, they each won one, with the road team winning both times.

The Blues have lost five of their last seven games, while the Avs have won six of their last seven. This seems like a good bounce-back spot for the Avalanche.

Blues vs Avalanche best odds

Blues vs Avalanche picks and predictions

The Avalanche had a very uncharacteristic loss on Thursday night, and I expect them to be very fired up after that performance. They’re barely in a playoff spot right as they currently sit in the second Wild Card position, but are tied with the Calgary Flames and only one point ahead of the Nashville Predators.

Prior to the game against the Ducks, the Avs had looked fantastic defensively, allowing just 13 goals in their previous seven games. The Blues have been quite the opposite, looking terrible defensively allowing 15 goals in their last three games, this team is struggling right now.

One disadvantage that the Blues have in this game are injuries. They’re missing some key players like Pavel Buchnevich and Ryan O’Reilly, while Robert Thomas is questionable to play. These three are massive contributors to their offensive production and without them, they might struggle mightily.

Alexandar Georgiev has been very impressive in goal for the Avalanche, entering this game with a 19-11-3 record along with a .919 save percentage and a 2.62 goals against average to go with a +11.5 goals saved above expected.

I love Colorado in this spot and I think they’ll get it done in regulation.

My best bet: Avalanche 3-way (-145 at BetMGM)

Blues vs Avalanche moneyline analysis

The Avalanche dug themselves a pretty deep hole in the standings, but in their defense, a lot of it was out of their control with so many injuries. They aren’t fully healthy just yet, but Nathan MacKinnon has really started to hit his stride with 17 points in his last 10 games. The Avs are one of the scariest teams in the league when they’re playing their game — they’ve scored 15 goals in their last five games and the Blues are certainly struggling defensively, so they should be able to take advantage of that.

The Blues have been pretty weak defensively for most of the season, and they’re currently allowing the sixth-most goals against in the league, giving up 3.59 per game. Their penalty kill has struggled as well, only skating to a 74.6%.

The Blues don’t have a lot going for them at the moment and the points are crucial for the Colorado Avalanche. The Avs are going to be the more desperate team for sure. This is their game to lose.

Blues vs Avalanche Over/Under analysis

Overs have most definitely been a trend lately at Ball Arena, going 4-1 in the last five games in Colorado. These aren’t two of the best defensive teams in the NHL, so I have a feeling that this will be a very back-and-forth, offensively-charged game.

There’s somewhat of a rivalry with these teams now after last year’s playoff series, so this has all of the ingredients to be a fun matinee.

The Blues are skating to a 3.28 xGA/60, which speaks to their poor defensive performances, while the Avalanche are currently looking at a 2.89 xGA/60.

Jordan Binnington and Georgiev is a decent goaltending matchup, but I don’t expect either of them to stand on their head. I expect to see some goals.
