An NFC heavyweight showdown takes place on Thursday Night Football with the Los Angeles Rams set to hit the road to take on the Seattle Seahawks.
The top spot in the conference is up for grabs, and my early Rams vs Seahawks predictions expect Los Angeles to continue a pattern that’s seen it dominate Seattle.
Check out my early NFL picks for Thursday, December 18.

Early TNF spread pick: Rams -1
If you like applying betting trends to your handicapping as I do, it’ll be near impossible not to back the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday.
First and foremost, the Rams have been an elite bet to close out the regular season in recent years, as they’re on a 17-3 against-the-spread tear in December. This includes being 2-0 ATS in 2025, where they’ve scored a combined 86 points vs. the Cardinals and Lions with over 500 total yards in each game. To say they’re locked in right now would be an understatement.
Then we have the trends specific to this matchup. Los Angeles has covered in 11 of the last 14 games against the Seattle Seahawks, including five straight at Lumen Field.
And, oh yeah, the Rams are also dominating on the road, where they’ve gone 11-2 ATS in their last 13 games and are a red-hot 17-5 ATS overall since December 1, 2024.
Even if you’re not into trends, I think it’s fair to be a little concerned about the Seahawks after they barely got by Philip Rivers and the Colts as 13-point favorites.
While Seattle is still stacking wins, Sam Darnold has cooled off, and it’s fair to question his confidence and ability in important standalone matchups after he crumbled down the stretch last season.
The Rams have really had his number, going 3-0 against him since the start of last season. They made him look like the Jets version of Sam Darnold a little more than a month ago when they forced four interceptions.
Trends don’t always tell the full story, but when this many align with form, matchup, and quarterback history, they’re hard to ignore. On a short week in Seattle, everything points to the Rams continuing their December dominance.
Early TNF total pick: Under 44
While I have more conviction backing the Rams against the spread, the Under is a bet I’m also comfortable supporting. I go that way for the obvious reasons of two high-level defenses along with Darnold’s struggles in high-profile spots and his recent history vs. this Rams defense.
This is a matchup between teams ranked second and third in points allowed, with each also ranking high in yards per play allowed, third-down defense, red-zone defense, and sacks.
A big takeaway from their game in November, which the Rams won 21-19, is that it was trending toward being much lower scoring as they only had 26 combined points with a few minutes left in the game, before each scored a late touchdown.
The Seahawks have taken full advantage of some light competition of late, holding the Vikings, Falcons, and Colts to a combined 25 points over their last three games.
While the Rams represent a major step-up in competition, we shouldn’t expect another 40-point game out of them.
Unless this game is decided by short fields or defensive scores, it’s hard to see a clean path to a shootout. The matchup, recent meeting, and defensive metrics all point toward a lower-scoring game script.
