Saturday of Week 1 of the NFL preseason features eight games and plenty of opportunities to find some great player props on Underdog Fantasy.
Here are my top three NFL picks for Week 1 of the preseason on Saturday, August 9.
NFL player props and best bets for today
McCarthy higher than 48.5 passing yards
Bennett higher than 104.5 passing yards
Mitchell higher than 20.5 rushing yards
J.J. McCarthy 48.5 passing yards: HIGHER (Play at Underdog)
We will get to see the NFL debut of 2024 first round pick, J.J. McCarthy, after missing all his rookie season with a torn meniscus. He has impressed in camp, and I expect to see a solid start for him.
Wide receiver Jordan Addison is suspended for the first three games of the regular season, so I would not be surprised to see him play to get in those reps he will miss once the regular season starts.
Regardless, I think we see McCarthy play the entire first quarter and should have plenty of passing opportunities to reach this number.
Stetson Bennett 104.5 passing yards: HIGHER (Play at Underdog)
This is just a pure volume play here. The Los Angeles Rams almost never play any of their veterans in the preseason, which means we will not see either Matthew Stafford or Jimmy Garoppolo at all.
That leaves just Stetson Bennett and Dresser Winn to see the field at quarterback. Last year in the preseason, Bennett averaged 218.5 passing yards in his two appearances. I expect him to see at least a full half, if not closer to three quarters of this game.
He only needs to reach half that number in this game to hit this mark. I love this play if he sees at least a full half.
Elijah Mitchell 20.5 rushing yards: HIGHER (Play at Underdog)
Elijah Mitchell has not seen game action in the NFL since Super Bowl 58 when he was playing against his current team. He missed all last season with a hamstring injury.
Now that he is with the Kansas City Chiefs and has not played in a full season, I expect the Chiefs to get him plenty of reps this preseason. He is currently sitting third string behind Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt. Pacheco will start but probably not play much. I would be surprised if Hunt plays much at all.
I would think Mitchell gets most of the action in the 2nd and 3rd quarters and should be able to get enough carries to hit this total.
Odds are correct at the time of publishing and are subject to change.
