We're six weeks into the NFL season, and bye weeks and injuries are starting to pile up.
That creates opportunities, though, and several of my Week 6 first touchdown scorer picks are built around those circumstances.
Along with Chuba Hubbard opening the scoring across Sunday's slate, check out our NFL picks for Sunday, Oct. 18.

Pick #1: Chuba Hubbard
The Philadelphia Eagles have struggled offensively with their offensive line in pieces, and now Jalen Hurts will be sidelined as well. It’s hard to look beyond the Carolina Panthers opening the scoring, especially with Bryce Young healthy following the bye.
Although Chuba Hubbard started the season in a timeshare, he’s now firmly seized control of the backfield, totaling 39 carries over his last two games while also contributing in the passing game. He’s scored five touchdowns in just four games, including the opening score in three of those contests.
When the Panthers reach the red zone, they’re looking to hand the ball off to the former Oklahoma State standout.
- Matchup: Panthers vs Eagles

- TV: CBS
Pick #2: Cam Skattebo
The New York Giants welcome the New Orleans Saints to MetLife Stadium this Sunday in what is essentially a pick’em.
However, the Saints' offense has struggled over the past two weeks, while the Giants are still finding ways to score with Jameis Winston under center, putting up 63 points over their last two games.
The Saints have surrendered a whopping 10 touchdowns to opposing running backs this season and lead the league in rushing yards allowed to the position.
That gives Cam Skattebo a solid chance to score just his second touchdown of the season. He’s amassed 51 carries and eight targets over the past three weeks, remaining a central piece of New York’s offense.
- Matchup: Saints vs Giants

Pick #3: Luther Burden
Caleb Williams looks set to return Sunday despite carrying a questionable tag. Luther Burden has impressed in the Chicago Bears quarterback's absence, and his production will improve with Williams back under center.
Burden has drawn at least five targets in every game this season, and I'm less interested in the Bears' ground game, as the Atlanta Falcons have allowed just two rushing touchdowns to opposing running backs. I also don't expect Williams to take many chances with his legs in his first start back from injury.
That makes Chicago's pass catchers particularly intriguing. Burden leads the Bears with eight red-zone targets, just one fewer than every other Chicago wideout combined.
- Matchup: Bears vs Falcons
