Week 6’s matchup between the Chicago Bears and Atlanta Falcons has a dash of “will he, won’t he” when it comes to both teams' starting quarterbacks.
Atlanta’s Michael Penix Jr. is dealing with a rib injury while Chicago’s Caleb Williams could potentially return from a three-game absence after hurting his hamstring.
My Bears vs. Falcons predictions dig into the injury updates and initial market moves, informing my early leans and NFL picks for Oct. 18.

Early Bears vs Falcons spread pick: Falcons +3.5
Michael Penix Jr. has reportedly avoided any serious rib injuries, and it sounds like he’ll be back under center for the Atlanta Falcons in Week 6.
Penix has transformed the Falcons' attack since returning to QB in Week 3, lifting Atlanta to the top of the offensive metrics in that span.
However, the market opened the Chicago Bears as road favorites with the possibility of QB1 Caleb Williams returning from a three-game hiatus.
The markets usually indicate what's to come, so I’d lean Atlanta as a home underdog right now, but I'll wait to see if this spread climbs when and if Williams’ status is official.
The Falcons have an underrated defense, anchored by a front four that gets pressure without needing the blitz. Atlanta ranks Top 10 in pressure rate, tops in QB hits, and No. 4 in pass-rush win rate at ESPN. Williams' mobility will be tested early and often.

Early Bears vs Falcons total pick: Under 49.5
Like the spread, the Over/Under market will swing dramatically based on Williams’ status for Sunday. I expect a 50+ points total, especially with the game on the fast indoor track at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Atlanta’s rushing attack can play a little defense on offense by controlling possession and chewing up the clock with shorter gains. The Falcons hand off more than any team in the NFL, picking up 5.1 yards per carry and dominating the clock for the fourth-highest TOP.
Chicago’s run stop isn’t great, ranking in the lower third of the NFL.
The Bears rank 27th in EPA allowed per run and 22nd in opponent success rate per handoff, meaning foes get what they want when running on Chicago. The Bears also have injuries stacking up in the front seven, including LB T.J. Edwards and DE Dayo Odeyingbo.
I’m leaning Under but will wait to buy back a pending market move later in the week when Williams’ health is clearer.
