College Football Parlay Picks for Week 9: A Royal Flush in Harrisonburg

As we approach the final month of the regular season, teams will be desperate to either get to that six-win mark and secure bowl eligibility or continue the push toward the CFP. Our parlay picks feature teams looking to do just that.

We’re entering Week 9 of the college football season, and we still have eight undefeated teams among those vying for a national title. Most of these schools are traditional powerhouses, but we also have a couple of plucky underdogs looking to put together signature seasons, even if a perfect campaign probably won’t lead to a College Football Playoff berth.

The college football odds have the Georgia Bulldogs, Air Force Falcons, and James Madison Dukes all as heavy favorites to remain unbeaten this weekend. However, I’m not convinced all of these teams will cover, even if they should each keep their records intact.

The Louisville Cardinals were undefeated until their last game. Coming off a bye week, they face the surprisingly tough Duke Blue Devils in a game that I’m targeting for a same-game parlay.

Read on to find out how I’m playing my parlays on Saturday in my free college football picks for Week 9.

Best college football parlay Week 9

Florida +14.5

Air Force -14

Old Dominion +21

The Georgia Bulldogs are doing everything they need to do in order to defend their national title. However, they haven’t been quite the dominant force we remember from 2022. The Bulldogs have failed to cover in four of their last five games, and are 0-2 against the spread on the road, including beating the Vanderbilt Commodores 37-20 in their last outing two weeks ago.

The Florida Gators have been solid, if not spectacular, going 5-2 on the year and winning their last two games. Outside of a somewhat lopsided loss to the Utah Utes to start the season, the Gators have looked like a second-tier SEC team, capable of at least putting up resistance against anyone. At home, I expect Florida to stay within two touchdowns and cover the spread.

Undefeated Air Force (7-0) is also a two-touchdown favorite but faces a different level of challenge from the Colorado State Rams (3-4). The Falcons have covered in four of their last five, with only the Wyoming Cowboys being able to keep within one score of Air Force this year. The Falcons have one of the best – albeit one-dimensional – rushing attacks in the country, but can also use the passing game as a surprise weapon. The Rams will struggle to stay in this one, and I expect Air Force to cover.

James Madison is also among the ranks of the undefeated, and the 7-0 Dukes have even broken into the top 25 in national polls. However, they’ll face a stiff challenge from an Old Dominion Monarchs team that has won three of four and covered in five of their last six outings. That includes one-score losses to the likes of the Wake Forest Demon Deacons and the Marshall Thundering Herd. James Madison will win, but the Monarchs should be able to remain within 21 points to cover the spread and round out our parlay.

Best college football SGP Week 9

Louisville -4.5

Jawhar Jordan TD

Jack Plummer Under 237.5 passing yards

50% boost available

A lot of the questions around the game between Duke and Louisville this week have revolved around the status of Blue Devils quarterback Riley Leonard. However, I don’t think he’s nearly as important to this game as most pundits, and I’m comfortable with an SGP that targets the Cardinals regardless of Leonard’s status.

That begins by predicting Louisville will cover the 4.5-point spread. Sure, the Cardinals suffered their first defeat of the year against the Pittsburgh Panthers a couple of weekends ago, but they had the benefit of a bye week to rest, recover, and look for ways to improve before another big showdown with Duke. Outside of the strange win over the Clemson Tigers to open the season, the Blue Devils just don’t have the kind of resume that the Cardinals do, which includes a home win over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

How will Louisville win this one? Likely behind a punishing running attack led by Jawhar Jordan. So far this season, Jordan is averaging 7.4 yards per carry, and has scored an impressive eight times on the ground. Given what we know about the Duke defense, Jordan should be a focal point for the Cardinals offense on Saturday, and I’m picking him to reach the endzone at least once.

Speaking of that Duke defense, we know the Blue Devils can defend against the pass. Duke is allowing just 9.2 yards per completion and is holding opposing quarterbacks to a 104.7 rating, both numbers that rank among the top 10 nationally. Louisville quarterback Jack Plummer can move the ball but struggled to do so against another elite defense in Notre Dame, putting up just 145 yards in that game. I’m guessing he’ll be reined in against Duke as well, so I’m taking the Under on Plummer’s passing yardage prop.

Since joining Covers in 2022, Ed has offered his sports betting analysis primarily on MLB, NFL, college football, and college basketball games, but is willing to take on any sport.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
