Can the Texas Longhorns make the Playoff if they suffer a third loss this weekend?

At the absolute best, it would be a surprise. Expect the Longhorns to throw everything they can at the Georgia Bulldogs, including the kitchen sink if need be.

My Texas vs. Georgia predictions recognize the Bulldogs’ worst habit and how it could be particularly noticeable against the Longhorns at their most desperate.

Texas vs Georgia prediction

Texas vs Georgia best bet: Texas first-half moneyline (+154)

The Georgia Bulldogs need to learn from their worst habit before it is too late. Then again, it has already been too late once, a 24-21 loss to Alabama, even though the Bulldogs were 2.5-point home favorites.

At home, Georgia fell behind 14-0 a minute into the second quarter, 17-7 halfway through the quarter and 24-14 at halftime. Shutting down the Tide’s offense in the second half was too little, too late.

The Bulldogs had risked similar worries just one game earlier, falling behind at Tennessee 21-7 in the first quarter, rallying to win in overtime. One would think Georgia saw how close it came to a costly loss and would come out faster out of the gates.

Wrong.

Including those two games, the Bulldogs have been one-score favorites five times this season, three of those coming at home. Georgia has trailed at halftime in every one of those home games and in four of the five touted games.

With the Texas Longhorns desperate, expect the Bulldogs to fall behind early once again.

Texas vs Georgia same-game parlay

Georgia has been favored by one possession five times this season. The Bulldogs have trailed at halftime in four of those games, glad to simply be tied with Florida at the break two weeks ago.

Georgia then went on to win four of those games, falling short in its comeback against Alabama, arguably the best team in the SEC. The Bulldogs like to play with fire, but recognizing that provides some betting value.

Our deep-ball SGP: Points Galore!

In just about every way, the Under makes more sense in this game, but the Over better fits the thought of a second-half comeback from Georgia.

Comebacks typically have more points, be it via a momentum swing or a chaotic fourth quarter.

Douglas Farmer spends his days thinking about college football and his nights thinking about the NBA. His betting habits and coverage follow that same pattern. He covered Notre Dame football for various outlets from 2008 to 2024, most notably spending eight seasons as NBC Sports’ beat writer on the Irish. That was also when his gambling focus took off. Knowing there were veteran beat writers with three decades more experience than he had, Douglas found his niche by best recognizing Notre Dame’s standing in each year’s national landscape, a complex tapestry most easily understood and remembered via betting odds.

In 2021, that interest created a freelance opportunity with Covers, a role that eventually led to Douglas joining the company full-time in 2023. In the fall, Douglas will place five or six dozen bets each week, a disproportionate amount via BetRivers because the operator tends to have lines slightly different than the rest of the market. The same can be said of Circa Sports’ futures markets.

While Douglas is an avid NBA fan and covers the league throughout the year, the vast majority of his bets are on college football, because that is the biggest key to sports betting: Know what you do not know.
