Texas Tech vs Arizona State Predictions - Early Picks & Odds for Week 8

Arizona State is a massive underdog, and while we don't expect it to beat Texas Tech, the 10.5-point spread is too lofty. The Sun Devils will hang tight in what should develop into a high-scoring, back-and-forth contest.

Texas Tech vs Arizona State predictions

Here are our early thoughts on the spread and total for this week’s game. We will have a full game preview (with a best bet and SGP) later in the week.

Early Texas Tech vs Arizona State spread pick: Arizona State +10.5

-110 at FanDuel

The Texas Tech Red Raiders vs. Arizona State Sun Devils line has moved quickly from -9.5 to -10.5, crossing the key number of 10, one of the most common margins of victory in college football.

This line shift toward the Red Raiders alters the betting landscape, making ASU +10.5 a compelling early play.

Historically, three, seven, and 10 are the most frequent winning margins, and by sitting above all three, the +10.5 spread protects bettors from those three most likely outcomes.

While Texas Tech boasts the nation’s top passing offense at 363.8 yards per game and a balanced rushing attack, Arizona State’s efficient offense and disciplined defense can limit mistakes, generate sacks, and keep enough offensive drives alive to keep this game below 10 points.

The Sun Devils may not win outright, but the +10.5 cushion provides strategic value while avoiding key-number risk.

Early Texas Tech vs Arizona State total pick: Over 49.5

-110 at FanDuel

The total for Texas Tech vs Arizona State opened at 51.5, but early indicators strongly favor the Over despite the line dipping to 49.5.

Texas Tech leads the nation in passing, averaging nearly 10 yards per attempt, paired with a 205-yards-per-game rushing attack, resulting in an elite, balanced offense capable of scoring quickly and in bunches.

Arizona State is more conservative but still averages 423 total yards per game, with an efficient rushing attack at 5.2 yards per carry.

Both defenses are strong against the run, but Tech’s explosive aerial attack and chunk-play ability will likely produce multiple successful scoring drives.

If Tech scores early, ASU may abandon its conservative approach and try to keep pace through the air. Even factoring in sacks and turnovers, the pace of play and respective firepower suggest a combined score well above 49.5.
