A Texas A&M Aggies team that has struggled to meet expectations finally climbed the mountain in 2025. Can it get there again?
The Aggies fashioned their first double-digit regular season win tally in 13 years, opening with 11 straight wins before dropping its season finale and bowing out in the first round of the College Football Playoff. That season-ending stretch left fans and players gutted – and oddsmakers aren't giving the Aggies much of a shot at a repeat.
Here's a look at the recent history of Texas A&M win totals, along with predictions on whether the Aggies will surpass or fall short of their 2026 number of 8.5:

Texas A&M lost a school-record 10 players to the NFL Draft including seven at the line of scrimmage. I’m not a big believer of quarterback Marcel Reed, who threw four interceptions and zero touchdowns in the final two games last year.
Rob Paul
Although Texas A&M is due for a regression this season, Mike Elko’s team would need a catastrophic year to go Under 8.5 wins. The Aggies are No. 14 in returning production (65%), bring in the No. 12 transfer portal class, and have a schedule ranked No. 50 in SOS (.545).
They return one of the most experienced QBs in the conference in Marcel Reed, on top of an explosive receiver room led by Mario Craver and Alabama transfer Isaiah Horton. As long as the transfers on the offensive line click and Holmon Wiggins is a solid playcaller, Texas A&M should have a top 25 offense.
The defense is in even better shape, with the addition of several key transfers: Anto Saka (Northwestern), Ray Coney (Tulsa), CJ Mims (North Carolina), and Rickey Gibson III (Tennessee). This unit is littered with former blue-chips, including potential breakout player DJ Hicks.
Colby Marchio
With one of the toughest home environments in college football, the Aggies will always have an edge at Kyle Field. That said, their three toughest road games this season are at LSU, Alabama, and Oklahoma. I would love nothing more than to see Texas A&M walk into Baton Rouge and knock off Lane Kiffin and the Tigers.
Mike Elko is one hell of a coach who knows how to get the most out of his players. Bringing back Marcel Reed is massive for the offense after he threw for nearly 3,200 yards, rushed for almost 500 more, and accounted for 31 total touchdowns in 2025. With another year of experience and plenty of weapons around him, Reed feels primed for an even bigger season. The vibes are high in College Station.
The Aggies do have a few key pieces to replace on defense, but there is plenty of confidence they will once again field a unit capable of slowing down the best offenses in the SEC.

🔑 Key takeaways
- Finally!: A half-decade of underachieving came to a triumphant end for Texas A&M and Over bettors alike, with the Aggies blowing past their Vegas win total by 3 1/2 en route to an unlikely appearance in the College Football Playoff. Oddsmakers and bettors nailed the call; the Over was priced at -175 (carrying an implied probability of 63.6%).
- The unsolvable team: Sportsbooks had to feel some relief at finally seeing the favored side of Texas A&M's win total convert. Eliminating 2021 (where the odds were -110/-110) and not counting pushes (I'll get to those next), the plus money side of the Aggies' win threshold had cashed eight straight times from 2011-24.
- Nailed it: College football win total pushes are rare; you'll only see a handful among Power 4 conferences each season. So imagine how bettors must have felt when they saw the Aggies hit their Vegas win tally on the nose in three straight seasons from 2014-17. (At least everyone had their bets returned!)
How Texas A&M win totals are priced
I'm curious to know if the approach to the Aggies' 2026 win total is impacted at all by the team's historic inability to surpass the number.
Sportsbooks finally responded to years of underperformance in College Station, saddling Texas A&M with its first 7.5 in six years. And while it was clear based on betting action that the crowd saw that as an over-adjustment, the fact that this year's O8.5 is set at +110 suggests that a return to 10+ wins is no given.
On the plus side, the Aggies won't face Georgia or Mississippi this season, and don't have a non-conference date with Notre Dame (though they did win last year's rematch). But the end of their regular season is a tough one: They'll face Alabama, Tennessee, Oklahoma and Texas over their final five games.
The Aggies' SEC win total is set at 5.5, with the Over at -120 and the Under at +100.
The Aggies are 2-1-1 O/U in four instances when their Vegas win total carries plus money on the Over.
