Notre Dame vs Georgia Tech picks and predictions for October 31

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have given up just 10 points combined over their last two games. That does not bode well for a Georgia Tech squad that is coming off consecutive ugly losses.

When Georgia Tech was getting absolutely obliterated by Clemson 73-7 a couple of weeks ago, cameras cutaway to the stands late in the game, where a lone Yellow Jackets fan was lying flat on the bleachers, looking half-awake and seemingly pondering his life choices. College football betting can make you feel the same way—especially if you’ve backed Georgia Tech recently.

The challenge for the Yellow Jackets doesn’t get any easier this week, as they welcome the No. 4 team in the country to Atlanta on Saturday.

Here are our best college football free picks and predictions for No. 4 Notre Dame at Georgia Tech. Kickoff is scheduled to take place at 3:30 ET on October 31 at Bobby Dodd Stadium.

Against the spread (ATS) pick

We kept waiting for Notre Dame to finally explode this season, and Pitt was the unfortunate victim last Saturday in a 45-3 victory. Quarterback Ian Book needed only 16 completions to throw for 312 yards and three touchdowns. Big 6-foot-2 receiver Ben Skowronek was a problem all day for the Panthers, coming up with two catches for 107 yards and two scores. The Irish defense was also once again fantastic, holding Pitt to a measly field goal.

Oh, Georgia Tech. After that spanking at the hands of Clemson, the Yellow Jackets responded with a 48-27 loss on the road to Boston College. But hey, how about the play of quarterback Jeff Sims? The true freshman led the team both in the air and on the ground, going 12-for-18 for 171 yards and two scores while rushing for 47 yards and a touchdown.

This game simply comes down to how motivated the Irish are. With the quick emergence of Ohio State, Notre Dame will want to continue to impress voters, and its stellar defense—ranked tops in the ACC—should do the trick.

PREDICTION: Notre Dame -19.5 (-110)

Over/Under pick

Watching Notre Dame rack up 45 points on Pittsburgh’s Top-10 defense was just the sort of springboard the Irish needed after a 12-point performance against Louisville. The Over is 5-0 in Georgia Tech’s last five, and the money has already moved the line in that direction, so that’s my play as well.

PREDICTION: Over 58 (-110)

Team total pick

When looking at the Irish’s season thus far, it’s their defense that stands out.

Notre Dame is allowing just 9.8 points per game and has allowed a total of 10 points in its last two games combined. It’s hard to see the Yellow Jackets having much offensive success, but maybe their solitary fan at the Clemson game has at least come up with some answers about the direction of his life.

PREDICTION: Georgia Tech team total Under 18.5 (-108)
