Memphis vs Cincinnati picks and predictions for October 31

Desmond Ridder has guided Cincinnati to a 4-0 record and the No. 7 ranking in the country. But he'll be tested Saturday in an expected shootout against the AAC's No. 2-ranked offense in Memphis.

This is the time of year when teams outside of the Power 5 conferences start forcing their way into the Top 10 and disrupting the college football betting landscape like John McClane at Nakatomi Plaza in “Die Hard.” And that brings us to Cincinnati. Welcome to the party, pal!

Under head coach Luke Fickell, the Bearcats have clawed their way up to the No. 7 spot in the country and lead the way in the American Athletic Conference, with the always-dangerous Memphis Tigers standing in their way on Saturday.

Let’s check out our best college football free picks and predictions for Memphis at No. 7 Cincinnati, with kickoff scheduled for 12:00 ET at Nippert Stadium on Saturday, October 31.

Against the spread (ATS) pick

Let me introduce you to the new Memphis, same as the old Memphis! The Tigers can score points with the best of ‘em, averaging 38.8 points per game on the arm of quarterback Brady White. The senior gunslinger has thrown 17 touchdowns and four interceptions this season and is coming off a four-touchdown performance in a 41-29 victory over Temple. White likes to spread the ball around, but Calvin Austin III is his most dangerous target and he hauled in six catches for 184 yards and a score against the Owls.

If you want to stop the Bearcats, you better find a way to contain Desmond Ridder. He’s passed for 723 yards this season and rushed for 444, though Gerrid Doaks complements him nicely in the backfield. Cincinnati has blown through its schedule thus far, which includes a 42-13 pasting of SMU last Saturday.

The Bearcats rolled up 313 yards on the ground against the Mustangs, who run a high-paced offense similar to the one Memphis employs. Expect Cincinnati to control this game and impose its will on the Tigers and the worst defense in all of college football.

PREDICTION: Cincinnati -6.5 (-110)

Over/Under pick

I was surprised to see SMU score so few points last weekend, but it’s worth noting that the Mustangs were without some important pieces on offense.

The Tigers will be close to full-strength, and while I don’t expect them to cover the number, I do expect them to help push this game over the total.

PREDICTION: Over 59.5 (-110)

Team total pick

Defensively, Memphis is giving up 567.8 yards a game and 33 points a contest. Maybe those terrible numbers are the result of incorporating a few of Sgt. Powell’s Twinkies into their pre-game meals, but whatever they’re doing, it’s going to lead to a huge number put up by the Bearcats and their 37.3 points per game. Yippee-ki-yay.

PREDICTION: Cincinnati team total Over 32.5 (-104)
