LSU vs Auburn picks and predictions for October 31

Regardless of who is starting at quarterback for LSU Saturday, the Tigers' RB duo of Tyrion Davis-Price and John Emery Jr. should provide enough support to get a win over Auburn.

It hasn’t been the title defense Ed Orgeron and LSU envisioned when the season began, but the Bayou Bengals will look to build some momentum this weekend when they take on Auburn in a battle of the Tigers with a matchup against Alabama looming on the horizon.

Neither Tiger can afford another loss if they have any hope of catching Bama in the SEC West standings and it should be a close matchup with Auburn getting three points at home.

Let’s take a look at our best college football predictions for LSU at Auburn, with kickoff scheduled for Saturday, October 31 at 3:30 ET.

Against the spread (ATS) pick

LSU has traded wins and losses to sit at 2-2 SU/ATS and are coming off a 52-24 win as 4.5-point home chalk over South Carolina—and maybe created a bit of QB controversy in the process. Freshman signal-caller T.J. Finley stepped in for the injured Myles Brennan and was an efficient 17-21 for 265 yards and two touchdowns with one interception while adding another score on the ground.

However, Orgeron has come out and said if Brennan is healthy, he’ll be LSU’s starting quarterback. Despite the two losses, Brennan has been pretty good this season: The senior QB has thrown for 1,112 yards with 11 touchdowns and three picks. But the offense hasn’t been the problem for the Bayou Bengals—it has been the defense.

LSU ranks 83rd in total yards allowed and 98th in passing yards at 344 per contest, resulting in giving up 30 points per game. Luckily for LSU, Auburn hasn’t been very good. In fact, Auburn is a few lucky bounces away from having a few more than two losses.

Auburn QB Bo Nix continues to struggle with accuracy into his sophomore season, completing just 57.8 percent of his passes. While RB Tank Bigsby is having a solid year for Auburn, if LSU takes away the run, Nix continues to prove he can’t regularly win games with his arm. Take the Bayou Bengals in the battle of the Tigers.

PREDICTION: LSU -3 (-110)

Over/Under pick

As mentioned, the LSU defense has struggled this season, but they’re not the only Tigers with a clawless unit. Auburn’s defense has taken a big step back in 2020, allowing a tick over 400 yards per game on defense and yielding nearly 30 points per game over its last four contests. Auburn is lucky to be coming into this game off a win after being the beneficiary of a bad call that likely cost Ole Miss a win.

The Rebels rumbled for a whopping 283 rushing yards in that game and went 11-17 on third down. Now, Auburn has to deal with the LSU backfield combo of Tyrion Davis-Price and John Emery Jr. The balance of the LSU offense will be tough for Auburn to handle.

So, with a pair of defenses full of holes, and talented playmakers on both offenses, this SEC West battle should turn out to be a bit of a shootout.

PREDICTION: Over 64.5 (-110)

First-half Moneyline Pick

The Auburn Tigers have not been a great first-half scoring team this season, putting up just 12.2 points in the opening half of games. The LSU Tigers, on the other hand, have been one of the more prominent first-half scoring teams in the country this season at 22.5 per contest.

LSU may have a shaky defense, but the Auburn offense usually takes a while to get going either way. Take LSU to have the lead heading into the break.

PREDICTION: LSU (-135)
