Nick Saban's time at Alabama spanned almost two decades and featured multiple National Championships. When he stepped away in January 2024, everyone tipped their cap to one of — if not the best — college football coach of all time.
He was supposed to drive off into the sunset and enjoy his retirement, without leaving the Alabama faithful queasy about a possible return to the sidelines with another team.
Thanks to Greg McElroy's recent comments, Roll Tide fans must be riding a wave of scary emotions:

Nick Saban next team odds
No betting market is available yet, but we’re keeping an eye on it and will update this article when that changes.
Top 5 landing spots for Nick Saban
With no odds (yet) to speak of, let's try to break down the best possible landing spots and why they'd appeal to a soon-to-be 74-year-old former head coach.
5. North Carolina Tar Heels
Yes, I know, some guy named Bill Belichick was just named head coach, but are we sure — I mean, really sure — he won't jump ship to the NFL (again) at the first time of asking?
What the North Carolina Tar Heels did by signing Belichick is show they are willing to take a chance on proven (read: old) coaches who have a knack for winning.
While playing in the ACC has its benefits, I don't think UNC can compete with the rest of this list in terms of what they can offer.
4. West Virginia Mountaineers
There's only one issue I see with the West Virginia Mountainneers, and that's the fact that they just hired Rich Rodriguez, who is pretty much WVU through and through.
However, comparing Saban to Rich Rod is like comparing apples and oranges.
Saban grew up just 20 miles from Morgantown, and the hometown flavour makes WVU a possibility.
Whether they have enough funds or the roster to compete is another story, but it's a fun one to follow.
3. Miami Hurricanes
Here's a bit of a rhetorical question: Who would you rather have as your coach? Mario Cristobal or Nick Saban?
You don't have to answer that, because I already know the answer.
Saban could be the guy to get the Miami Hurricanes over the hump in a conference that feels like it's ready to be won.
I'd root for Saban as a member of the Hurricanes.
2. LSU Tigers
When asked about Nick Saban's possible return to college football, Brian Kelly had this to say:
"It’d be better for college football if Nick Saban is coaching. Period. There’s nobody better to develop players & certainly build championship programs. … It’d be a great day if he was back in it.”
What Kelly doesn't realize is that if he continues to falter, Saban will be the one to replace him.
The LSU Tigers offer a tremendous program with excellent recruits and plenty of NIL. Plus, there's history here, with Saban helping LSU win their first National Title since 1958, back in 2003.
1. Texas A&M Aggies
After the Jimbo Fisher experience, doesn't it feel like Mike Elko is just keeping the seat warm for someone with a bigger name and a better track record?
The Texas A&M Aggies are always competitive in a deep SEC conference, and with plenty of NIL and money to throw at Saban, this could be the match we didn't know we needed.
