Give me the LSU Tigers -9.5, up to -11.5, because they have a top-10 defense in college football, and that travels. Furthermore, LSU can neutralize the Kentucky Wildcats' biggest strength — rushing — and the Tigers have a strength-on-weakness edge in pass protection.
Kentucky ranks 35th nationally in yards per rush, but LSU's defense is fourth in yards per rush allowed. The Wildcats are 92nd in sacks taken, while the Tigers rank second in sacks on defense.
LSU can win by margin by dominating the high-leverage situations. Kentucky is 131st in offensive third-down conversion rate and 106th defensively against FBS programs, while the Tigers are 10th and 16th, respectively.

Early LSU vs Kentucky total pick: Under 52.5
I lean toward the Under 52.5, down to 51.5, as a market fade after this total climbed from a 49.5 opener. LSU is one of the most popular football programs in the country, and I'm guessing the oddsmakers weren't off by 3.0 points on their opening total.
Also, blowouts are where Overs go to die, and I don't see the Wildcats scoring many points Saturday. Ole Miss is the only school to score more than 14 points against LSU, and it took a superstar performance from Rebels Heisman hopeful QB Trinidad Chambliss.
Lastly, Tigers QB Sam Leavitt has been playing through a hamstring injury, and he's struggled in the pocket against quality competition.
