Highlighted by the return of quarterback Gunner Stockton, this is Kirby Smart’s most experienced team in his 11-year tenure in Athens. I gave out Georgia OVER 9.5 wins as a best bet way back in the spring. I still lean that way even with the heavy juice. My ratings project Georgia to be favored in every game, including 10 games by more than a touchdown.

Kirby Smart has won double-digit regular season games in eight of the last nine years (only a pandemic could stop him). This season should be much of the same with a roster that’s No. 8 in returning production (68%).

The Bulldogs bring back QB Gunner Stockton after he finished No. 6 nationally in QBR (84.9), and his dual-threat ability should help Georgia thrive with an offense full of potential breakout players. Chief among them is Nate Frazier, the next great Bulldogs running back, and Smart also added transfer Isiah Canion (Georgia Tech) and blue-chip recruit Kaiden Prothro to a pass-catching corps that returns London Humphreys and Lawson Luckie.

The defense is always among the best under Smart and Glenn Schumann, and even added a pair of underrated transfers - Khalil Barnes (Clemson), Ja’Marley Riddle (East Carolina) - to a secondary that returns All-American candidates in Ellis Robinson IV and KJ Bolden. Plus, the front seven is loaded with Chris Cole and Elijah Griffin set to take leaps.

Am I allowed to say the way Kirby Smart handled a lot of those close games last year pissed me off?

Kirby, occasionally Smart, looked like he was coasting off his two national championships and just coaching a little too lackadaisical at times. However, he is still the best halftime adjustment coach in the country, which is exactly why they call him Smart. The Bulldogs always seemed to find a way to finish games as strong as possible.

This year, Smart brings back 14 starters, and we love to see that in this day and age. It shows these players are happy in Athens and believe in the culture he has built.

If you believe in Gunnar Stockton and the Dawgs in 2026, you are probably already looking at taking them to finish the regular season undefeated. For just one more win at +600, though, that might be the more fun sweat. You can always sprinkle it.

Georgia has tough road games at Alabama and at Ole Miss but manages to avoid Texas, Texas A&M, LSU, and Tennessee in conference play. The Bulldogs have not lost more than two games in the regular season since 2020, and the experience they have back leads me to believe it won’t happen this year.

🔑 Key takeaways

  • High expectations? No problem: Over bets on Georgia win totals have not been for the squeamish over the past several years, but the Bulldogs have rewarded those bold enough to take the plunge. Georgia is an incredible 6-1-1 to the Over in the past eight seasons for which sportsbooks graded SEC win total markets – a feat made even more impressive by the fact that it had double-digit win totals in six of those eight years.

  • Before that? Let's not talk about it: Perhaps the hesitation from Georgia Over bettors stemmed from the team's O/U showing prior to its recent hot streak. The Bulldogs went just 2-6-3 O/U from 2005-16, with one of those Over conversations paying out at a less-than-lucrative -175.

  • Plenty of close calls: You can be certain that Georgia's win total result will be a sweat more often than with most SEC programs. The Bulldogs have come within a half-game of their Vegas win number eight times since 2005, including four pushes (2005, 2008, 2015, 2019).

How Georgia win totals are priced

It isn't often that you see oddsmakers take a stand on a team win total, but that appears to be what is happening with the Bulldogs.

With the O9.5 heavily slanted in favor of the books at -180 and the O10.5 sitting at a bettor-friendly +160, sports betting sites are nearly unanimous that a 10-win season is the most likely outcome for the vaunted Bulldogs.

If you're having trouble picking a side here, you won't find an easy alternate route to a strong Over play in the conference wins category. DraftKings' lone conference wins market for Georgia sits at 6.5, with the Over at an eye-opening -186; the Bulldogs were 7-1 in SEC action last year.

Georgia has been a much easier team to handicap wins-wise than most of the teams in the conference, which could make a wins play on this team a real challenge in 2026.

Did You Know?

Georgia is an incredible 53-2 SU at home since the start of the 2017 season, but is just 22-32-1 ATS at Sanford Stadium over that span.
