The good feelings the Virginia Tech Hokies had following the dismissal of Brent Pry have quickly evaporated after two more losses.

Yet they are still favored against the visiting Cal Golden Bears this week. I’m just not sure they should be. While the Golden Bears have been a little up and down, they’ve been a much better team to this point. So, I’ve cooked up an SGP with that in mind.

For even more college football picks for this Friday night ACC clash, check out my Cal vs. Virginia Tech predictions.

Our best Cal vs Virginia Tech SGP for Week 9

Virginia Tech won back-to-back games after firing Brent Pry, but followed those with back-to-back losses to Wake Forest and Georgia Tech, going 0-2 against the spread in the process. Virginia Tech is now 1-6 ATS for the season.

QB Kyron Drones has struggled, and the defense can’t stop anyone, ranking 110th in EPA per play and 106th in defensive success rate.

This week, they’ll go against an underrated Cal Golden Bears team. The Golden Bears have been a bit of a roller coaster this season, but enter this game at 5-2 thanks to exciting freshman QB Jaron-Kaewe Sagapolutele and a solid defense.

JKS needs to limit the turnovers while the Cal defense ranks 37th in the country in defensive success rate, including 44th in success rate on rushing attempts. The wrong team is favored here. Virginia Tech shouldn’t be favored for anything at the moment. Give me Cal on the moneyline.

JKS has found his favorite target in Jacob De Jesus. The speedy slot wideout has already hauled in 47 receptions this season for 406 yards. He’s also coming off a breakout performance against UNC, catching 13 balls for 105 yards and a TD. His receiving yards prop against the Hokies is at a very reasonable 56.5. Let’s take him to go Over this number for the third time in four games.

But when Cal gets into the red zone, JKS likes to target his big-bodied and ironically named tight end, Mason Mini. He has the second-most targets on the team and has found the end zone three times this season. Round this SGP out with a Mini TD.

It's not an interesting story. Seriously.
