As we enter Week 9 of the college football season, I’m looking to target secondary options in my touchdown scorer picks. That means staying away from the chalk and looking for bigger returns across the board.
Thankfully, there are plenty of options offering excellent odds despite having scored multiple times this year, with names like Isaiah Horton, Marcel Reed, and Junior Sherrill standing out.
Let’s take a look at my latest college football picks for the upcoming slate.
College football anytime touchdown picks for Week 9
Prop bet #1: Isaiah Horton anytime TD
Isaiah Horton shares the lead in receiving touchdowns for Alabama, finding the end zone five times this year. He has also scored in five separate games, including each of the last two.
Although Horton’s overall usage is somewhat limited, he seems to have a nose for the end zone, having also scored five times last season with Miami. Meanwhile, South Carolina has struggled to stop the passing game, allowing 6.7 yards per attempt this season.
We’ve seen enough to back Horton at these generous odds. This is a strong payout for a player who is seeing plenty of red-zone targets right now.
Prop bet #2: Marcel Reed anytime TD
Texas A&M remains undefeated, and the play of sophomore quarterback Marcel Reed has been a big part of that success. Reed has thrown 15 touchdown passes with just four interceptions on the year, while compiling 1,770 yards through the air.
Reed is also a dual-threat quarterback, totaling 241 yards on the ground this season. That has led to four rushing scores for the Aggies pivot.
If anything, Reed seems to be getting more confident with his legs as the season goes on. The quarterback has run for touchdowns in each of his last three games, picking up his longest rush of the year against Arkansas last week.
The LSU defense will make life tough for Reed, so I expect more scrambles from designed passes alongside his designed runs, giving Reed a great chance to continue his scoring streak.
Prop bet #3: Junior Sherrill anytime TD
Vanderbilt has been one of the best stories of the college football season. While Vandy has been good in virtually every phase of the game, perhaps most impressive has been its balanced offensive production, which has led to the Commodores averaging 41.4 points per game.
Quarterback Diego Pavia has thrown 15 touchdown passes while completing 70.5% of his passes, and Junior Sherrill has proven to be one of his favorite targets. While tight end Eli Stowers leads the Commodores in receptions, Sherrill is tops among wide receivers and has scored six touchdowns on the year.
The Commodores will have to fight for every point against Missouri, but they should find success through the air at some point. With solid odds on Sherrill, he’s a great pick to reach the end zone in this contest.
Odds are correct at the time of publishing and are subject to change.
