We’re moving into the second half of the college football season, and that means we have more data to rely on as we make our TD scorer picks for Week 8.
This week, I’m looking at three high-volume players who haven’t found the endzone as much as expected. That includes productive backs and receivers like Malachi Hosley and Dakorien Moore.
Read on to see all my favorite TD scorer props for the Week 8 slate in my college football picks for Saturday, October 18.
College football anytime touchdown picks for Week 8
Prop bet #1: Malachi Hosley anytime TD
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have used three primary runners this season, with quarterback Haynes King getting the most carries while Jamal Haynes has taken the majority of the handoffs. But arguably the most effective weapon on the ground has been Malachi Hosley.
Hosley has only 43 carries, but that’s been enough to pick up 384 yards and five touchdowns. That averages out to 8.9 yards per attempt, a blistering pace that seems to be earning him more touches in recent weeks. Last Saturday, Hosley had a season high 11 carries for 129 yards and a score.
The Yellow Jackets are putting up 36.7 ppg and get to face off against a Duke Blue Devils defense that has been hit for 21+ points in four of its last five games.
And while Duke’s defensive issues lie mostly in stopping the passing game, Georgia Tech isn’t going to abandon their gameplan and shouldn’t have much trouble moving the ball on the ground. When they do, expect more carries and a score from Hosley.
Prop bet #2: Dakorien Moore anytime TD
The Oregon Ducks will be looking to rebound from their first loss of the season, and have a golden opportunity to do so as big favorites on the road against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Rutgers has been abysmal defensively, ranking among the worst teams in the nation in terms of yards allowed per run (4.9), pass attempt (9.2), and per play overall (7.0).
As a result, the Scarlet Knights are allowing 27.5 ppg, and they haven’t allowed less than 31 points to a Big 10 opponent yet this year. That’s all without having played an offense like Oregon’s, which has scored 30+ points in five of its first six outings.
One of the leading players in the Ducks offense this year has been Dakorien Moore. The freshman wide receiver leads the team in both receptions (23) and yards (335).
The only thing he hasn’t done regularly is find the endzone, with just three scores on the year. But with his usage remaining consistent, I think Moore is a great option to find the endzone at plus money against Rutgers in a game where Oregon should score several touchdowns.
Prop bet #3: Jordan Faison anytime TD
After losing two tough and close openers to start the year, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish have reeled off four straight wins while putting up 40 ppg on offense for the year. And while the Irish tend slightly towards the running game, they’ve been extremely efficient when they choose to pass the ball, putting up 10.4 yards per attempt.
Quarterback CJ Carr has 13 touchdown passes on the year, and while Jordan Faison has only two of them, he’s obviously Carr’s favorite target. Faison leads Notre Dame with 29 receptions and 376 yards receiving, and has caught at least four balls in each game during the current winning streak.
Ultimately, that sort of volume means that scores will come. This week, Notre Dame faces off against the USC Trojans, who are allowing opponents to complete over 62% of their passes for 243.7 yards per game. The Trojans are giving up 7.8 yards per passing attempt, which ranks near the bottom of all FCS teams.
Notre Dame should get its fifth straight win on Saturday, and Carr will have his pick of open targets against the Trojans. Expect Faison to take advantage – he has a great shot at reaching the endzone.
