Alabama vs Georgia is a big-time SEC rivalry game, and this edition will not disappoint, even if we do expect less scoring than last year's shootout. Two improved defenses will keep this tight and intense, with 'Bama covering the short spread.

Several massive games line the schedule in Week 5, and one of the biggest happens between the hedges in Athens, where the Georgia Bulldogs will host the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The Bulldogs are coming off a big comeback win over Tennessee, while the Crimson Tide are out to prove their Week 1 letdown vs. Florida State was just a blip on the radar this season.

The Dawgs are 3-point home favorites, and my early Alabama vs. Georgia predictions not only break down who has the edge in this epic SEC clash, but also give some college football picks for Saturday, September 27.

Early Alabama vs Georgia spread pick: Alabama +3

-122 at FanDuel

For a long time on Saturday, it looked like Josh Heupel and the Tennessee Volunteers were finally going to defeat Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs.

But the Dawgs just wouldn’t go away and wound up winning in overtime. The most surprising part was QB Gunnar Stockton. The Georgia signal caller went 23-for-31for 304 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions.

Meanwhile, the Alabama Crimson Tide tried to do their best to make people forget about their season-opening embarrassment at Florida State by hammering Wisconsin, which included two massive touchdowns for Ryan Williams.

That should give Alabama some hope after watching the Vols’ Joey Aguilar throw for 371 yards and four touchdowns in that loss to Georgia.

Then there are the respective defenses in this game. On paper, they are both elite and entered the season regarded as two of the best in the country. However, both have failed to meet expectations at times.

This game has all the makings of another classic back-and-forth battle between these two SEC rivals. So, with that in mind, I’ll lean toward getting three points with Alabama as an underdog.

Early Alabama vs Georgia total pick: Under 52.5

-110 at FanDuel

The 52.5-point total is two points higher than last year’s closing number between these two SEC rivals.

Now, that game was a shootout, with the Crimson Tide winning 41-34. Bama got out to a huge lead before Georgia stormed back, with the Tide holding on for the win at the end. But things could be different this time around

While the offenses are arguably better this season, I would say the defenses for both teams are definitely stronger than they were the last time they met. Alabama enters this game ranked 25th in defensive success rate, while Georgia ranks 37th.

I choose to believe both Kalen DeBoer and Kirby Smart will have their defenses prepared, as we get a traditional low-scoring SEC showdown. Well, at least low-scoring enough to stay Under this total.
