Two undefeated teams will face off in a battle between Top-10 squads as the Purdue Boilermakers host the Iowa State Cyclones this afternoon.

The early-season results suggest these teams should be evenly matched, which is why I’m taking the Cyclones to cover in my Iowa State vs. Purdue predictions and college basketball picks

Iowa State vs Purdue prediction

Iowa State vs Purdue best bet: Iowa State +6.5 (-110)

A dive into the recent history of these two programs will show that the Purdue Boilermakers have been a potential national title winner, while the Iowa State Cyclones merely exist as a very solid and competitive program.

However, if we focus just on what both teams have done this year, a very different picture appears.

These two teams are both 8-0, and both have looked impressive in their victories. The Boilermakers have won every game by at least seven points, while the Cyclones have only had one game finish with a gap of less than 18 points.

We can also review the analytics, and there’s still little to distinguish these squads. Iowa State ranks in the Top 10 in both offensive and defensive efficiency according to KenPom. And while Purdue ranks just No. 19 in defensive efficiency, it tops the country in its offense rating (129.6).

We don’t need to parse the fine details here: these teams are close to evenly matched. And even if Purdue’s reputation gives it the slightest of edges, it’s not enough to justify any significant spread in this game. With more than six points being offered, I’m taking the Cyclones to cover.

Both Iowa State and Purdue have been open to playing higher-scoring games this year, as their offenses are both efficient and have the ability to put up plenty of points.

I’m also taking Iowa State forward Joshua Jefferson to hit the Over on his scoring total as he’s averaging 18.4 ppg and has scored 16+ points in six of his last seven games.

Since joining Covers in 2022, Ed has offered his sports betting analysis primarily on MLB, NFL, college football, and college basketball games, but is willing to take on any sport.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
