The Phoenix Suns escaped with a victory against the Sacramento Kings on opening night, while the Los Angeles Clippers fell by a wide margin to the Utah Jazz as near-double-digit favorites.

That makes for an interesting matchup on Friday as L.A. will once again earn the respect of oddsmakers in a bounce-back spot, but is it deserving?

My Suns vs. Clippers predictions detail why Phoenix can make things interesting and carry over momentum from its win against the Kings.

Suns vs Clippers prediction

Suns vs Clippers best bet: Suns +10 (-110)

While the Phoenix Suns have turned over much of their roster over the last year or two, their offensive approach appears to remain the same. The team took a ton of shots from the mid-range the previous season, and to start the year, it’s ranked top-10 in shooting frequency between the preseason and the first few days of the 2025-26 campaign.

This just isn’t a team we can expect to score efficiently, and to make matters worse, after shooting just 32.4% from deep in the preseason, it went 10-for-34 against Sacramento on Wednesday. Dillon Brooks had a rough debut, going just 9-of-24, and it appears that with Jalen Green still nursing an injury, there’s going to be little help for Devin Booker.

The Los Angeles Clippers were excellent in defending the mid-range last season, something that was truly poetic given their mastery of scoring out of this area, but what’s a potential game-changer is an increase in outside shooting frequency. The 3-ball accounted for over 51% of L.A.’s shot attempts in its opening loss to the Jazz, but just 14 out of 45 went down.

This team will likely not be shooting this much from outside – it was just down 43-19 after one quarter – but we certainly can’t rule out this team taking a leap offensively. Kawhi Leonard, Bradley Beal, and James Harden are all healthy and capable of scoring from the arc, and coming into this one, the trio will be well-rested after neither played 30 minutes.

The Suns did defend well in the preseason, but didn’t do a great job on that end last year, and are coming off a win to Sacramento, where they were brutally gashed inside. They did manage to out-rebound their opponent by a wide margin and hold them to just 9-of-24 from beyond the arc, and that may be on the table once more after L.A.’s shaky shooting performance.

The Clippers are certainly a better rebounding team than Sacramento, however, so I’d certainly temper expectations – but that shouldn’t stop the Suns from making this a game.

Suns vs Clippers same-game parlay

We will trust in what we saw on Wednesday and project the Clippers to shoot some 3-pointers here, and if that’s the case, then we’ve got to throw our money behind Bradley Beal.

He was featured for just 20 minutes due to some foul trouble and a brewing blowout, but he did take four of his five shots from outside the arc and presents the Clippers with a much-needed weapon from outside after the departure of Norman Powell.

I’m also going to take Kawhi Leonard to eclipse the four rebounds he had in 29 minutes versus Utah; Phoenix isn’t the same kind of team on the glass, and his primary matchup – Dillon Brooks – is one of the worst rebounders at his position and just gave up eight boards to Kings wing Nique Clifford in the opener.

Suns vs Clippers SGP

  • Suns +10
  • Bradley Beal Over 1.5 made threes
  • Kawhi Leonard Over 5.5 rebounds

Our "from downtown” SGP: Point Gawd!

We’ll mix Chris Paul into the equation, following his four assists in just 15 minutes against the Jazz. He was able to dish off to Brook Lopez for an assist on three separate 3-pointers and should be passing into plenty more outside shots here.

Lopez, in particular, should have a great matchup against a Suns frontcourt that cannot defend stretch bigs.
