The Houston Rockets dominated the Golden State Warriors in Game 5, and they’ll need another win on Friday to force a winner-take-all Game 7 back at Toyota Center. Steph Curry has played well in closeout games throughout his career, and I expect more of the same tonight.

Curry was deferential in Game 4, but even when he was firing, he was a bit flat. Back from a one-game absence, Jimmy Butler delivered a monster performance as Curry let him take the lead in the win. In Game 5, the Golden State Warriors were dismantled on the road as the Houston Rockets jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.
Curry played limited minutes in the Game 5 blowout, but he was inefficient while on the court. Over the last two games, he’s scored a total of 30 points on 10 of 25 shooting, and I’m thrilled to bet on this depressed scoring line that’s fallen three points since Game 4.
Curry ended his 2024-25 season with a bang, averaging 27.1 points across the final 25 games before the playoff series with Houston. In that span, he scored 26 or more points 13 times.
Though he let Butler cook in Game 4, this is still Steph’s team, and he’s still the leader and best player. He’ll be the one to take charge in a crucial closeout game. Since 2019-20, Curry has appeared in 10 closeout games and averaged 26.7 points. He scored at least 26 in six of them, including three of four at home.
Butler’s availability certainly doesn’t take away scoring opportunities from Curry. In fact, the Chef has been cooking even more with his superstar teammate on the court. In 27 games with Butler, Curry averaged 27.2 points and hit the Over on this line 14 times. In 43 games without Butler, he averaged just 22.9 points and scored 26 or more 18 times.
The Warriors have been on the losing end of a 3-1 series comeback, and Curry understands the importance of closing this one out at home to avoid a Game 7 at Houston. Expect a vintage performance from one of the greatest of all time.

Curry’s 3-pointers line is set at 4.5 for plus-money odds, but I’ll take the alt line for a bit more stability in this three-legger. During the regular season, Curry knocked down at least four treys in 46 of 70 appearances. That includes 18 of 27 games played with Butler while averaging 4.7.
Curry isn’t just a one-note guy. In addition to the top-notch scoring and shooting, he’s been great as a facilitator and rebounder. In this series, he’s averaged 4.8 rebounds and 6.2 dimes and hit the Over on this combo line in three of his last four. In closeout games over the last five seasons, he’s averaged 11.2 rebounds + assists and gone for at least 10 eight times.
