Rockets vs Spurs best bet: Amen Thompson Over 16.5 points (-112)
It’s no coincidence that the Houston Rockets are hitting their stride just as Amen Thompson is taking off. Year 3 expectations are high, and he’s answered the call during Houston’s winning run.
Thompson’s contributions are showing up all over the box score, but his scoring has been the most eye-catching stat. He’s eclipsed this points prop in four straight games, reaching another level this week with 28 points in Memphis after dropping 27 against Dallas, and I see more magic in store against the San Antonio Spurs tonight.
The Rockets guard has shot 50% or better from the field in his last five contests, and Ime Udoka hasn’t been shy about loading up the minutes for his two-way phenom. Thompson has been on the court for 39+ minutes in three of his past four outings.
His ability to get out in transition is a huge plus for the visitors against a Victor Wembanyama-led defense, and Thompson is an obvious place for the Rockets to look for a spark if Alperen Sengun and Kevin Durant are bottled up. We’re already seeing his emergence as a higher volume shooter, with a combined 44 field goal attempts across his past two games.
Thompson should have good memories of facing the Spurs, too. He made 12 of his 15 shots on the way to 25 points in his last matchup against San Antonio.
Rockets vs Spurs same-game parlay
The Spurs are missing De’Aaron Fox, Dylan Harper, and Luke Kornet for this NBA Cup clash, and that gives the Rockets the edge in talent and depth. Houston is 8-2 SU in its last 10 outings against San Antonio, and I expect the visitors to hand Wemby and Co. their first home loss of the season.
Wembanyama won’t go quietly, though. He’s come back to earth a little after a scorching first two weeks, but his rebounds tally should bounce back tonight. Wemby is averaging 12.9 rebounds per game this season, and he’s racked up 14+ boards in each of his three games at Frost Bank Center.
