The New Orleans Pelicans will look to build on their first win in 10 games as they visit the ailing Orlando Magic this afternoon.

Both teams have been playing low-scoring basketball lately, which has me targeting the Under again in my Pelicans vs. Magic predictions and NBA picks.

Pelicans vs Magic prediction

Pelicans vs Magic best bet: Under 234.5 (-110)

The Orlando Magic are stuck in a pattern when they're alternating wins and losses — they’ve done so for the last 13 games now — and the big issue seems to be the lack of consistent scorers in the lineup.

Leading scoring Franz Wagner (22.7 ppg) still hasn’t returned from his ankle sprain, while Jalen Suggs (15.0 ppg) remains out with a knee issue. Paolo Banchero (20.8 ppg) is still doing enough work to keep Orlando afloat, but the offense just isn’t the same, averaging 110.6 ppg over its last seven outings.

The New Orleans Pelicans haven't put up big numbers at any point this season, least of all during their recent nine-game losing streak. The Pelicans only managed to score more than 118 points once during that stretch, and their 128 points in Friday’s win over the Wizards count as a relative offensive explosion. Zion Williamson (22.8 ppg) and Trey Murphy III (21.7 ppg) can cause severe matchup problems for opponents, but beyond that, the scoring options are thin.

With those numbers, it’s not surprising that both teams have been playing towards the Under. The Pelicans have hit the Under in five straight games, while Orlando has done the same in each of its past three. And it’s not as though the totals in these games have been big, with all but one of those games coming in Under today’s number.

Despite all that, we have a total of 234.5 for this afternoon’s contest. I can’t see these teams putting up enough offense to threaten that number.

Pelicans vs Magic same-game parlay

Along with the Under, I’m taking the Magic to cover at home, as Orlando is not only the far better team but has covered seven straight times against the Pelicans. I’m also taking Magic star Paolo Banchero to go Over 24.5 points, since he’ll continue to take on more of the offensive load with both Jalen Suggs and Franz Wagner remaining out of the lineup.

Moritz Wagner is making his season debut for the Magic today after averaging 12.9 ppg last year. He should get some solid usage given Orlando’s shorthanded lineup.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
