The Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers have gotten off to hot starts this season, but something’s got to give on Sunday when they go head-to-head in LA.
With Miami’s strong defense keyed in on Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, my Heat vs. Lakers predictions are counting on a pair of role players to step up..
Here are my best free NBA picks for Sunday’s tilt at Crypto.com Arena.

Heat vs Lakers prediction
Heat vs Lakers best bet: Jaime Jaquez Jr. Over 21.5 points + rebounds + assists (-115)
Jaime Jaquez Jr. is making a strong case to win Sixth Man of the Year, as he’s been playing some great basketball off the Miami Heat bench. He posted a 6/8/6 line in his last game out, but that was arguably his worst game of the season, and he still posted 20 PRA.
In four games prior, Jaquez averaged 18.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists, good for 29.4 PRA. He’s posted 20 PRA twice and gone for 37, 33, and 27 in his other three contests.
He sits fourth in minutes (29.2) and scoring (16.2) on Miami, and he could be in line for even more opportunities tonight. Norman Powell missed Miami’s last two games and didn’t participate in Saturday’s practice. Powell leads the team in scoring (24 points per game) and is second in minutes (31) and rebounds (7.3).
I expect Miami to stay competitive vs. the Los Angeles Lakers, and a big game from Jaquez will be needed to make that happen. His floor is 20 PRA, and I’m counting on him bouncing back offensively from Friday’s performance, in which he went just 2-for-8 from the floor.
Heat vs Lakers same-game parlay
Miami is 4-1 against the spread. The Heat always bring grit and intensity on defense, but they're surprisingly second in scoring this season at 125.4 points per game. The Heat are not reliant on one or two guys like the Lakers are, and I expect Miami’s deep lineup to keep this one competitive in LA. A straight-up victory wouldn’t be at all surprising.
Jaxson Hayes finished with an assist in his first game of the season before missing two straight contests. In two games since returning, he’s dished three and five dimes, respectively. Hayes is playing second fiddle to Deandre Ayton, but he doesn’t need a ton of playing time to cash this.
Heat vs Lakers SGP
- Jaime Jaquez Jr. Over points + rebounds + assists
- Heat +4.5
- Jaxson Hayes Over 0.5 assists
Our "from downtown" SGP: Viva LaRavia
Opponents are attempting the second-most 3-pointers per game against the Heat due to the team’s size and strong interior defense. Expect Jake LaRavia to stay involved as a floor-spacer and 3-point threat off the bench. Half of his seven field-goal attempts have come from downtown this season, and he’s converted them at a 47.6% clip.
