The Detroit Tigers and Baltimore Orioles finish off a three-game set tonight after the hosts shocked the AL Central-leading Tigers with a 10-1 rout on Wednesday.

I’m expecting a much different result in this one as Tarik Skubal takes the mound for Detroit, with the Tigers ace coming in on an 11-game unbeaten streak.

I’ll break down how Skubal fits into my best bet in my Tigers vs. Orioles predictions and MLB picks for Thursday, June 12.

Tigers vs Orioles prediction

My Tigers vs Orioles best bet: Tarik Skubal to record the win (-110 at bet365)

The Detroit Tigers are already running away with the AL Central and that’s thanks in large part to their ace, Tarik Skubal. The southpaw stands as the clear betting favorite in the AL Cy Young race, having not suffered a loss since April 2 – a span of 11 straight starts.

I’m expecting Skubal’s streak to continue tonight against the Baltimore Orioles, who own one of the worst offenses in the MLB.

Skubal last pitched on June 6 against the Cubs where he allowed eight hits but just one earned run over 7.2 innings. In fact, the Tigers ace has surrendered just that one run over his last three starts combined – a total of 23 2/3 innings.

With a 2.16 ERA and a minuscule 0.83 WHIP, Skubal should easily have the upper hand on the Orioles bats, which are averaging just 3.92 runs per game (25th in the MLB).

Skubal is expected to go head-to-head against Keegan Akin, who will open a bullpen game for Baltimore. Akin has not pitched more than two innings in a game this season, so I’d expect to see several pitching changes tonight for the Orioles.

Baltimore’s bullpen ranks fifth-last in the MLB with a 4.74 ERA, so even a less-than-perfect start from Skubal should put the Tigers in position to pick up the win.

Tigers vs Orioles same-game parlay (SGP)

Tarik Skubal to record the win

Orioles Under 3.5

Spencer Torkelson 2+ total bases

Prior to yesterday’s 10-run outburst, the Orioles averaged 3.6 runs per game over their previous 10 outings. With Skubal in prime form, I’d expect Baltimore to come in Under 3.5 runs tonight as they’ll likely struggle to put more than one or two on the board vs. the AL Cy Young frontrunner.

Spencer Torkelson comes into the contest on a five-game hit streak with 3+ total bases in three of those outings. The Tigers first baseman leads the team with seven hits and 14 total bases over the last week and should find success vs. a lackluster Orioles bullpen.
