It’s a getaway day with just four games on the slate tomorrow, and there are more good pitching settings as opposed to hitting ones today. There are some new names in the rotations this week, so let’s find our best Edges and Angles on the bump.
These are my three favorite pitcher props and MLB picks for Wednesday, August 6.
Josh's best starting pitcher props for August 6
Liberatore u3.5 Ks (+108)
Cortes o4.5 Ks (+125)
May o15.5 outs (+135)
Cardinals vs. Dodgers
The angle: Liberatore is losing his leash and fading down the stretch.
The move: Matthew Liberatore Under 3.5 strikeouts (+108 at FanDuel)
Matthew Liberatore is pushing his innings total as he sits at 109 innings after pitching a career high 86 last year. The extra work might be slowing him down as he has just four punchouts over his last three starts that have totaled 11+ innings.
In his last three starts, he has thrown 85, 77, and 73 pitches, so the leash is getting low. He has a tough matchup vs. the Dodgers today in what is one of the few good hitting parks today.
He’s a low-K% pitcher paying plus money in a tough setting where he might not throw 80 pitches. THE BAT is projecting 83 pitches and 3.56 strikeouts.
Padres vs. Diamondbacks
The angle: It might be his first start as a Padre, but he could flirt with 85 to 90 pitches.
The move: Nestor Cortes Over 4.5 strikeouts (+125 at DraftKings)
Nestor Cortes last pitched in the MLB back on April 3 but was just acquired from the Brewers and activated off the 60-day IL. That might sound worrisome, but the Diamondbacks are not an offense to worry about, and Cortes might have something in the tank for today.
The lefty threw in four games at Triple-A and got stretched out, throwing 17 and 16 outs in his most recent starts. He is also coming off a nine-punchout game and has been a K/inning pitcher over his career.
If he can get in his 85 pitches and five innings, this is a great spot for 5+ Ks at even money or better. THE BAT is projecting 89 pitches and 4.4 strikeouts.
Royals vs. Red Sox
The angle: May is coming off extra rest and is paying a great price to pitch into the sixth.
The move: Dustin May Over 15.5 outs (+135 at DraftKings)
Dustin May is entering his team debut on extra rest after last pitching on July 27. He has averaged 88 pitches per start over his last 10 games but hit 100 just two starts ago. His leash might be longer than expected today.
May will also get a solid matchup with the light-hitting Royals coming to Fenway, which has 8-mph winds blowing in and 69-degree temps. There are great pitching conditions in Boston today.
THE BAT is projecting 87 pitches and 15.7 outs today, making this a little better than a coin flip at plus money. It’s a tough market to price but I’ll play this Over to +110.
