The Midwest has been hit by stormy weather and I'm taking that into my handicapping for today's baseball slate as I back a pair of pitchers who have the wind at their back.
My MLB player props are also betting on Dodgers slugger Teoscar Hernandez to shine in his second game back after recovering from a hamstring injury against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday, May 20.
Best MLB player props today
-
Henderson Over 5.5 Ks (-110)
Paddack Under 2.5 ER (-130)
Hernandez Over 0.5 RBI (+175)
MLB props for May 20
Logan Henderson Over 5.5 strikeouts (-110 at DraftKings)
The Milwaukee Brewers have been bringing Logan Henderson along slowly but the 23-year-old has been lights out in two big league appearances, striking out 16 with seven hits allowed across 11 innings.
Henderson has a 40% strikeout rate in those two MLB starts. While that sample size is small, his 34.8% strikeout rate at Triple-A Nashville backs up his ability to make batters miss. Henderson has a two-pitch arsenal and doesn't throw with much velocity but he has excellent command and vertical movement.
He should excel against a Baltimore Orioles lineup that strikes out at the third-highest rate in the majors. Henderson has a tendency to give up fly balls but the 20 mph wind blowing toward the infield at American Family Field today should keep those inside the park.
With the O's posting an OPS of just .635 on the road, expect Henderson to go deep enough to eclipse 5.5 strikeouts with tonight's MLB picks.
Chris Paddack Under 2.5 earned runs (-130 at BET99)
The Cleveland Guardians and Minnesota Twins will wrap up yesterday's rain-shortened game at 6:10 p.m. before playing another full game soon after.
Twins right-hander Chris Paddack will start the second contest and he's been red hot. He's fresh off a gem against the Orioles where he logged seven innings of shutout ball and he has pitched to a 2.06 ERA with a 0.92 WHIP over his last seven starts.
The Guardians are 22nd in the majors in OPS (.686) and runs per game (3.96). They've been ice-cold lately, plating two runs or fewer in five of their last eight.
Paddack has allowed fewer than 2.5 earned runs in six of his last seven starts and he'll benefit from the 18 mph wind blowing toward the infield.
Teoscar Hernandez Over 0.5 RBI (+175 at bet365)
Teoscar Hernandez returned to the Los Angeles Dodgers lineup last night after a stint on the IL. He went 0-for-4 at the dish but still drove in a run thanks to a fielder's choice.
Before hitting the IL, Hernandez was leading the majors with 34 RBI through 33 games. The three-time Silver Slugger is putting up career-high numbers in BA (.306) and SLG (.582) and since he bats fifth in L.A.'s stacked lineup, he gets plenty of opportunities with runners on base.
The Arizona Diamondbacks are starting Ryne Nelson, who has primarily served as a reliever this year and has a 5.13 ERA across 26 1/3 innings. Things will get worse behind Nelson with Arizona's relievers 27th in the majors in ERA (5.36).
