HR picks for July 9
Shohei Ohtani (+255 at DraftKings)
Shohei Ohtani is one of the best power hitters in the big leagues, and he’s already smacked 31 home runs before the All-Star break begins, which ranks third in the majors.
The slugger went deep in Tuesday’s loss to the Milwaukee Brewers, his second long ball of July so far.
The superstar has only six home runs against left-handed hurlers and he’ll face Brewers southpaw Jose Quintana tonight. However, Ohtani is 1-for-1 lifetime versus Quintana with a bomb.
Quintana isn’t very prone to the long ball with just seven allowed this season, but we’re talking about Ohtani here. No matter who is on the mound, he’s a threat to put one in the bleachers.
Ohtani is performing just as well on the road, going deep 14 times away from Dodger Stadium. Los Angeles visits Milwaukee here as they wrap up a three-game set.
Riley Greene (+380 at DraftKings)
Riley Greene has emerged as one of the best hitters in the American League this year. He’s hitting .282 with 22 home runs, just two off his career-high, and the second half hasn’t even begun.
Although Greene is batting just .133 in July so far, he’s slugged three long balls.
Today’s matchup will also have him feeling confident. The Tampa Bay Rays send Zach Littell to the hill, and Greene is 5-for-9 against him lifetime.
While he’s yet to take Littell deep, it’s clear that Greene can do no wrong when Littell is on the mound.
The righty also allows a lot of homers, giving up 24 already this season. Eleven of them have come against left-handed batters. Greene could break out of his cold streak in a big way this evening.
Juan Soto (+210 at DraftKings)
The New York Mets are now seeing why they paid Juan Soto $765 million this past winter.
The power-hitting outfielder has come alive over the last month. He hit .333 in the June with 11 home runs and 20 RBI. He’s up to 21 long balls on the year, and is also batting .385 in July so far.
Soto will face Baltimore Orioles starter Tomoyuki Sugano this evening, and while this will be their first meeting, Soto has left the ballpark 17 times in 2025 against right-handed pitchers.
Sugano also has serious issues with the HR, giving up 19 of them in just 17 outings.
Left-handed hitters have been a struggle for the Japanese righty, too. He’s allowed 12 of those homers to batters who swing it from the left side.
A lot is going in Soto’s favor tonight.
