HR picks for June 21
Cal Raleigh (+145 at DraftKings)
If we're making MLB picks about home run hitters, we can't exclude the league leader.
It’s not too often you see any player not named Aaron Judge or Shohei Ohtani with home run odds this low. However, Cal Raleigh is truly putting up monster numbers, smacking home runs No. 28 and 29 on Friday against the Chicago Cubs.
The slugger is first in the big leagues in bombs and just surpassed Johnny Bench for the most long balls by a catcher before the All-Star break.
Raleigh finished the day 3-for-4, and he's homered three times in his last three appearances. In June alone, Raleigh has left the ballpark seven times.
He’s red-hot right now, and Cade Horton will be looking to keep him at bay this afternoon. While Raleigh has never faced Horton, 19 of his bombs are off right-handed hurlers.
Cody Bellinger (+340 at DraftKings)
The New York Yankees face Zach Eflin this evening, and Cody Bellinger has hit around the Baltimore Orioles righty. He’s 5-for-16 lifetime with a pair of long balls. Although Bellinger’s average is substantially better vs. lefties, his power plays more against right-handed pitchers with eight homers this year.
Additionally, Belli performs well at home, registering eight bombs in the Bronx. The short porch in right helps.
Shohei Ohtani (+150 at DraftKings)
Six games without a home run is a long time for someone of Shohei Ohtani’s caliber. He last went deep on June 14 against the San Francisco Giants, but he could end that homerless streak this evening in Southern California.
Ohtani has left the ballpark 15 times at Dodger Stadium this season, and the majority of his home run damage is against righties with 21 bombs.
Jake Irvin is prone to the long ball as well, already giving up 14 in only 15 starts. Ten of those bombs have come off the bats of left-handed hitters like Ohtani.
