HR picks for July 7
Riley Greene (+425 at DraftKings)
Riley Greene is having a monster campaign for the flourishing Detroit Tigers. The 24-year-old is hitting .286 with 22 home runs and 71 RBI, serving as one of Detroit's best offensive pieces. While he’s only batting .136 in July so far, Greene has already gone deep three times since the beginning of the month.
He had a two-homer game last week against the Nationals and also smacked a bomb on Sunday against the Guardians — a two-run shot. Greene will face Tampa Bay Rays starter Shane Baz tonight, who's struggling to keep opponents in the ballpark. He’s surrendered 16 home runs in just 17 starts.
Greene has also raked against Baz, going 2-for-2 with a homer. Eight of his long balls have come at Comerica Park as well.
Fernando Tatis Jr. (+280 at DraftKings)
Fernando Tatis Jr. is always a threat to go deep, no matter who's on the hill. He’s up to 15 long balls on the season to go along with a .261 average. The slugger hasn’t put one in the bleachers since June 21 against the Royals, but tonight’s matchup plays in his favor.
The Arizona Diamondbacks visit the San Diego Padres, and they will hand Zac Gallen the baseball, who's having a nightmare campaign and may be traded later this month. Gallen’s ERA sits at 5.45, and he’s given up 20 home runs in only 18 starts.
Tatis Jr. is 5-for-20 lifetime against Gallen with two bombs. He’s gone deep 11 times this season at Petco Park, too.
Matt Chapman (+475 at DraftKings)
Matt Chapman isn’t having the greatest season from a power standpoint, smacking just 12 homers so far, but he’s always been a guy with the ability to leave the yard, registering 25+ home runs in four different seasons throughout his career.
Chapman is up against Philadelphia Phillies stud Cristopher Sanchez tonight, who's having a dominant campaign. Still, the veteran has had success against him, going 2-for-5 lifetime with a home run. While Chapman rarely takes left-handers deep, he’ll have some confidence with Sanchez on the bump.
He’s also raked against the Phils this season, hitting over .400 with a home run. Chapman has left the yard twice in his last seven contests and has seven long balls at Oracle Park.
