The San Diego Padres are priced as a -138 moneyline favorite in tonight's contest against their NL West rivals, the San Francisco Giants.

San Diego's bullpen is dominating right now, and they will send an opener to the hill, which has my Giants vs Padres predictions targeting the hosts to win the series opener.

Read more in my MLB picks for Friday, July 31.

Who will win Giants vs Padres today: Padres moneyline (-138)

The San Diego Padres hand Bradgley Rodriguez the baseball, and he'll likely only work one or two innings. That will bring the rest of the Padres' bullpen into the picture early, and that's a massive strength.

San Diego's relievers own a 2.11 xERA across the last week, allowing just 0.29 HR/9.

As for the San Francisco Giants, they counter with youngster Carson Whisenhunt. He's struggled in just three big league starts this season, posting a 6.38 FIP across his previous two appearances. He's walked 5.06 hitters per nine innings during that span and allowed 2.53 HR/9.

The Padres aren’t showing much power lately, but they have produced a 112 wRC+ across their last six contests. San Francisco is swinging it relatively well, but San Diego’s lights-out bullpen gives the Padres the stronger full-game profile.

I'll play this pick up to -150.

Covers COVERS INTEL: The Padres pen has limited opponents to a mere 30.5% hard-hit rate and 2.4% barrel rate in the last week. That's compared to a 34.8% hard-hit rate and 5.5% barrel rate overall in 2026.

Giants vs Padres Over/Under pick: Under 8.5 (-100)

The Under is where I see value this evening. As previously discussed, the Padres relief corps is in excellent form, and while the Giants have managed to create some offense lately, their power output remains limited. San Francisco owns just a .151 ISO over its last seven games.

The Giants bullpen also has enough stability to keep San Diego from pulling away once Whisenhunt exits. San Francisco’s relief corps has posted a respectable 3.77 FIP over its last 25.1 innings while allowing only 0.36 HR/9.

The Padres have been scoring runs over the last couple of weeks, but the power has not followed. San Diego owns a .091 ISO over its last six games, giving this matchup a clearer path to stay Under 8.5.

I’ll play this pick up to -130.

Giants vs Padres weather

Conditions look excellent at Petco Park tonight, with clear skies and temperatures falling from the mid-70s into the low 70s. Winds should be light, and there is no rain concern. Weather should have minimal impact on scoring, though the mild air should keep ball carry fairly neutral.
