The Los Angeles Dodgers and Tampa Bay Rays come together for the final meeting of a three-game set this morning at Tropicana Field, with the visitors eking out a 6-5 win to tie up the series last night.

The Rays have been chugging along with six wins in their last nine outings. They will look to run up the score against Dodgers starter Gavin Stone, who’s been lit up in both of his outings this season.

Which club will emerge with the series win? Find out in our Dodgers vs Rays MLB picks and predictions for Sunday, May 28.

Dodgers vs Rays predictions

The Rays nearly pulled off the ninth-inning rally last night, but ended up falling 6-5 to the Dodgers on Saturday. Freddie Freeman went 2-for-3 with two walks and extended his hitting streak to 16 games, while Max Muncy hit a home run and tallied two RBI to power Los Angeles to the win.

After a somewhat slow start to the year, Freeman has made his mark in May, hitting .381 while collecting five homers and 22 RBI. His 37 hits this month rank second in the majors behind only Toronto’s Bo Bichette (38), while his 14 doubles, 23 RBI, and .381 batting average each rank first.

The first baseman has only gone hitless in three of his last 30 games dating back to April 25, while he’s recorded multiple hits in 11 of his last 16 outings.

The Rays are rolling with starter Josh Fleming, who can be tough on lefties. But Freeman is holding his own vs. southpaws this year, batting .288. He's hitting a lethal .352 against right-handers this season, with 50 hits in 142 at bats, so that second hit is very much in play once the bullpen gets to work.

Expect the hottest batter in baseball to collect at least a couple of base hits today.

Dodgers vs Rays moneyline analysis

Both the Dodgers and Rays come into today’s ballgame at the top of their respective divisions, but Tampa Bay has been just a bit better of late, while a struggling Gavin Stone on the mound for Los Angeles makes me lean towards the hosts in this one.

Pitching has been a concern for the Dodgers lately, with the club surrendering 5.12 runs per game over their last 11 contests. That’s translated to a 5-6 record over that span. Stone comes into today’s game with just two Major League starts under his belt and neither were pretty, as the right-hander surrendered at least five hits and four earned runs in each outing.

The Rays, meanwhile, are 6-3 over their last nine games while scoring 5.22 runs per game through those contests — actually just below their season average of 6.02 runs per game.

The Dodgers can fight fire with fire, of course, as their third-ranked offense (5.42 runs per game) sits right behind Tampa Bay, but the Rays are also 25-5 at home, which suggests that they won’t be easy to beat on back-to-back days at Tropicana Field.

Dodgers vs Rays Over/Under analysis

The total for today’s game opened at x runs, and all signs point to the Over being the wise choice in this one.

The Over is 8-1 in the last nine meetings between the two clubs in Tampa Bay, as well as 9-2 in the last 11 meetings overall.

The Over has cashed in five of Los Angeles’ last six road games, and five of its last six contests overall. It’s also 5-0 in Tampa Bay’s last five outings versus right-handed starters, which makes sense given that the Rays lead the MLB in almost every hitting category against righties.

As mentioned previously, the Rays and Dodgers rank second and third, respectively, in runs scored per game. Expect both clubs to run up the score today.

Starting pitchers

Gavin Stone (0-0, 10.13 ERA): The rookie right-hander has been rocked in each of his first two Major League starts, surrendering eight hits and four earned runs over just four innings in his debut back on May 3 and then five hits and five earned runs through four innings last time out on May 22.

Josh Fleming (2-1, 3.59 ERA): Fleming has an inflated 4.66 career ERA after a shaky last couple of seasons, but he's apparently put that behind him this year. However, his 4.72 FIP suggests regression is coming.
