The Los Angeles Dodgers have dealt with plenty of injuries this season, yet they are still tied for the top spot in runs per game.

Meanwhile, the San Diego Padres rank fifth in hits and ninth in runs per game since adding multiple bats to their lineup at the trade deadline.

My Dodgers vs. Padres predictions see the two sides scoring plenty of runs in a high-scoring divisional battle.

Let’s break it all down with my MLB picks for Friday, August 22.

Dodgers vs Padres prediction

Dodgers vs Padres best bet: Over 8 (-105)

Yu Darvish has not had a good season for the San Diego Padres. He’s missed a lot of time and hasn’t looked himself when available, posting a 5.97 ERA through close to 40 innings of work.

He has dealt with poor luck concerning stranding runners on base, as an unsustainably high volume of baserunners have scored. However, this is not a spot I’d expect to see a change.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are tied for first in runs per game and enter play in good form, ranking top-10 in essentially every major offensive category during August.

Shohei Ohtani is expected to return Friday night, Freddie Freeman is one of the hottest hitters in the league, Mookie Betts has flipped a switch in recent weeks, and on it goes.

The Dodgers are likely to give Darvish and the Padres' bullpen all they can handle in this game. Even against Blake Snell, the Padres should also be able to contribute their fair share of runs.

They have scored at least four runs in nine of the last 13 games and plated 21 runs spanning their last three.

We saw an average of 9.5 runs per game when the two sides clashed in San Diego earlier this season. Expect more of the same tonight.

Dodgers vs Padres same-game parlay (SGP)

Ohtani is a cheat code. He has managed a ridiculous .376 ISO against right-handed pitchers this season, with well over half of his hits going for extra bases.

Will Smith has a .316 average vs. righties this season and has driven in multiple runs in three of his last four road games. If Ohtani & Co. can set the table for him against a struggling Darvish, Smith should be able to cash in.

Dodgers vs Padres odds

  • Moneyline: Los Angeles -120 | San Diego +100
  • Run line: Los Angeles -1.5 (+140) | San Diego +1.5 (-164)
