The Atlanta Braves will open a three-game series on Tuesday night when they host the Arizona Diamondbacks at Truist Park.

My Diamondbacks vs Braves predictions explain why Zac Gallen’s control issues could put them in a tough spot from the start.

Read on for my full MLB picks ahead of this 7:15 p.m. game on Tuesday, June 3.

Diamondbacks vs Braves prediction

My Diamondbacks vs Braves best bet: F5 -0.5 (-115 at DraftKings)

Zac Gallen will be thankful that May is over. In six starts, the Arizona Diamondbacks’ hurler gave up a 5.50 ERA and went 2-3.

Control has been a real issue for him all season, as he’s walked 28 batters in just 66 ⅔ IP. But it hurt him in May, as he walked at least three batters in four of his six starts. His strikeout numbers have also taken a serious dip of late, as he’s struggling to get ahead in the count and ranks in the 22nd percentile in chase rate.

That’s bad news heading into a matchup with the Atlanta Braves. The home team ranks in the top half of the majors in walk rate, and ranks Top 10 in barrel rate, hard hit rate, and exit velocity.

Ronald Acuña, Jr. and Austin Riley have a history of success against Gallen and will be looking to punish him if he falls behind again. As a team, the Braves are hitting .256 against RHP and slugging .400, and their home/away splits favor them to have a strong performance.

On the flip side, Spencer Strider looked much more locked in against the Phillies last Tuesday. Although he took the loss for the third time in as many starts, he gave up just one run on one hit through 4 ⅔ IP while striking out seven.

His pitch count got elevated on the back of four walks, but Strider looked much more locked in than in his first two starts. He’s limiting how well opponents are barreling up, and he logged a lot more swings and misses as his stuff starts to improve.

Gallen has allowed 10 home runs already this season through 12 starts. It’s a key reason why he’s given up at least four earned runs in four straight starts, despite not getting through the sixth inning in any of them. And the warm temps in Atlanta tonight should help the Braves launch at least one out of the yard.

The Diamondbacks have won just two of their last 10 games, and another poor start by Gallen will sink them here. Take the Braves to lead after the fifth inning.

Diamondbacks vs Braves same-game parlay (SGP)

Braves F5 -0.5

Spencer Strider Under 6.5 strikeouts

Ronald Acuna Jr 2+ total bases

Spencer Strider is looking better, but the Diamondbacks aren’t going to make things easy for him. They’ve struck out the fourth-fewest times of any team this season, and with Strider on a pitch count, it could be tough for him to repeat his seven-strikeout performance of a week ago.

Ronald Acuña, Jr. has registered multiple bases in six of his nine games since returning from surgery, including five of the six he’s played at Truist Park. He blanked on Sunday vs a dominant LHP, but he’s had success against Gallen, tends to do better against RHP, and will be a threat to get into one at home.
