The Minnesota Twins ran away from the Chicago Cubs late in their series-opening 8-1 win, and the two teams will hit Target Field for Game 2 on Wednesday, July 9.

My Cubs vs. Twins predictions and top MLB picks expect there to be plenty of runs again tonight, with the Chicago bats bringing more to the plate.

Cubs vs Twins prediction

My Cubs vs Twins best bet: Over 9 (-117 at Pinnacle)

Don’t expect a pitcher’s duel to break out at Target Field tonight.

Chicago Cubs rookie Cade Horton has struggled on the road with a 6.08 ERA, 1.69 WHIP, and 4.81 xFIP, while Minnesota Twins righty David Festa has respective 5.48, 1.36, and 4.18 marks.

Chicago sends an elite offense to the dish with a fourth-ranked wOBA and third-ranked ISO against righties, and Minny is rolling with an average of 5.75 runs per game during a 3-1 stretch.

The Twins and Cubs also respectively rank 25th and 26th in BABIP across the past 30 days, so I’m anticipating a few extra balls finding green and plenty of baserunners in Game 2 of this interleague series.

Cubs vs Twins same-game parlay (SGP)

Over 9

Cade Horton Over 15.5 outs recorded

Kyle Tucker 2+ hits + runs + RBI

As bad as Horton’s road numbers are, he’s still coming off a tidy start with seven scoreless innings. The rookie has also recorded 16+ outs in five of his past eight trips to the hill.

His Over in the outs market is a huge odds multiplier alongside the Over 9 runs for this SGP, too.

Turning to Cubs star Kyle Tucker, he’s been mired in a mini-slump with a 6-for-27 stretch at the dish with a .593 OPS. Facing Festa is a perfect slump-busting matchup, with Tucker sporting a sixth-ranked .930 OPS against right-handed pitchers over the past three years.
