Bryce Harper and the Philadelphia Phillies have not been as dominant of late but are in a great spot to change that Thursday night.

My Braves vs. Phillies predictions see Harper’s power returning in an advantageous matchup against Cal Quantrill. Let’s break it all down with my MLB picks for August 28.

Braves vs Phillies prediction

Braves vs Phillies best betBryce Harper Over 1.5 total bases (-125)

Bryce Harper has averaged 1.9 bases per game this season but recorded two or more just twice over his last eight games. He has not hit for as much power of late, coinciding with the Philadelphia Phillies entering a bit of a slump.

Harper has a good chance of breaking out against the Atlanta Braves. They’ve bled runs of late, allowing nine or more in four of the past nine games. We’ve seen several ceiling games against them.

Another one could be in the cards Thursday with Cal Quantrill taking the bump. He owns a 5.51 ERA on the season and has allowed 18 earned runs over his last four starts, never making it through even five innings.

He is a very exploitable arm and Harper has the profile of someone who could really do damage. He has a .231 ISO vs. right-handed pitching this season and shines against most of what Quantrill throws, posting a .200 ISO or higher against each of his three most-used pitches.

Isolating those pitches (fastball, cutter, splitter), Harper has managed an average exit velocity of more than 98 miles per hour over his last 25 at bats.

Look for him to get a hold of one against Quantrill and clear this line with one swing of the bat.

Braves vs Phillies same-game parlay (SGP)

Harper isn’t the only star bat worth backing in this game. Ronald Acuna Jr. has a .308 average against right-handed pitching this season and has feasted on Aaron Nola over the years, hitting .345 with a .327 ISO and 10 extra base hits.

While Acuna Jr. should be able to make noise for the Braves, it’ll be difficult for them to keep up with the Phillies’ offense in a smash spot against Quantrill.
