NRFI/YRFI bets for June 20

Royals at Padres: YRFI (Play at ProphetX)

The Kansas City Royals have seen the second-most NRFIs in their games, with no runs 63% of the time. However, they’re currently tied for the longest YRFI streak in the majors at three.

K.C.’s Michael Lorenzen is 1-4 in his last six starts and has a 7.36 ERA in June. A first inning run has plated in three of his last four starts, with Lorenzen getting tagged twice.

It’s been a rough month for San Diego Padres’ starter Nick Pivetta too, as he’s carrying a 5.82 ERA in three June starts, with a YRFI cashing in two of those.

Braves at Marlins: NRFI (Play at ProphetX)

The Miami Marlins have seen no runs in the first inning in 53% of their games, and are currently riding a three-game NRFI streak, tied with a bevy of teams for longest current streak.

They’re taking on the Atlanta Braves, who are on the opposite end of the spectrum, having an opening inning run plate in 54% of their games.

This is a unique pitching matchup, so I’m going to lean on the NRFI side. Atlanta is starting 20-year-old Didier Fuentes, who will become the Braves’ youngest pitcher to start a game in over 50 years.

I don’t think it’ll be a long stint, and it could be electric: he has 48 strikeouts over 39 innings across his minor league stints.

The Fish are trotting out Janson Junk in his first start this season. He’s been a bulk reliever in five appearances this year and has authored a 2.78 ERA.

Nationals at Dodgers: YRFI (Play at ProphetX)

Let’s wrap with two teams near the top of the YRFI ladder.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have seen the second-most first inning runs scored in their games at 57%. The Washington Nationals are a few rungs down in seventh, with 54% of games featuring a YRFI, and 20 of 35 times happening on the road.

L.A. starts veteran Clayton Kershaw, and there’s been early action in his six starts this year, with four starts featuring first-inning runs. The Dodgers have accounted for three of those, while the opposition has tagged him twice as well.

MacKenzie Gore gets the start for Washington, and he’s only seen three of his last eight starts feature first inning runs – but two of those starts have come in his most recent back-to-back outings.

A total of nine first-inning runs have been scored in three head-to-heads this season, getting a YRFI twice, so there’s plenty to side with the yes on this one.
