It’s a rubber match today as the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers face off.

I think the Astros are most likely to get the win here, but there’s better value on the board with a Patrick Corbin prop.

My Rangers vs. Astros predictions break it down here as I bring you my MLB picks for Sunday, September 7.

Astros vs Rangers prediction

Astros vs Rangers best bet: Patrick Corbin Over 4.5 strikeouts (+120)

With an actual price of +120 and my fair price at even-money, combined with the expectation from BatX that we see him record around 16 outs, Patrick Corbin Over 4.5 strikeouts is easily the best bet to make in this matchup.

Corbin’s low strikeout rate in the Bottom 20% of baseball gives us a low number here, but it doesn’t fully account for the matchup. One factor is straightforward: the Astros have almost a 5% higher strikeout rate against lefties than righties.

However, the pitching arsenal aspect looms large here as well.

Corbin boasts an array of breaking pitches with the slider and sinker accounting for over 64% of his pitching arsenal. This is good for a bet and potentially bad for the Astros because if you’re looking for a pitch that Houston players struggle against most, it would be the breaking stuff.

This is most notably true against the slider, a pitch that up to six players in the lineup have an above-average strikeout rate against. Luckily for us, in terms of swings-and-misses, that has been the most effective pitch for Corbin this season, inducing a whiff rate of around 38%.

Corbin is well-positioned to get five or more Ks today.

Astros vs Rangers same-game parlay (SGP)

Even though I expect Corbin to be solid, I’m willing to buy low on Framber Valdez because of his historical success against the Rangers, so I'll add the Astros moneyline to the SGP.

I rounded it off with Yordan Alvarez to go over 1.5 total bases because of his hard-hit rate against the heavy breaking pitches he’ll see.

Astros vs Rangers SGP

  • Patrick Corbin Over 4.5 strikeouts
  • Astros moneyline
  • Yordan Alvarez Over 1.5 total bases

Astros vs Rangers odds

  • Moneyline: Houston -120 | Texas +100
  • Run line: Houston -1.5 | Texas +1.5
  • Over/Under: Over 8.5 | Under 8.5
