KBO Picks
ESPN Game of the Day: LG Twins (17-11) vs Kiwoom Heroes (17-12)
Probable Pitchers: Woo-chan Cha (3-2, 5.00 ERA) vs Hyun-hee Han (2-1, 5.60 ERA)
The Kiwoom Heroes are the KBO’s hottest team thanks to their five-game winning streak. Sunday, they’ll try to sweep away the LG Twins and overtake them in the standings in one fell swoop.
The Heroes hand the ball to Hyun-hee Han for the finale, but 2020 has been a tough return to the rotation for the right-hander, after coming off a successful campaign in the Heroes’ bullpen. He’s allowed 12 runs in his last three starts, which includes games against the light-hitting Wyverns and Eagles.
Who-chan Cha gets the call for the Twins and the veteran lefty has pitched close to his career norms season in terms of ERA and WHIP.
With the pitching matchup pretty even, the slight edge in hitting still goes to the Twins despite the two losses. And Saturday’s bullpen meltdown was not the norm for the Twins. There is good value with them to bounce back.
Pick: LG Twins (+109)
NC Dinos (22-6) vs Hanwha Eagles (7-22)
Probable Pitchers: Jae-hak Lee (2-1, 6.08 ERA) Ee-whan Kim (1-2, 6.00)
What else can we say about the NC Dinos at this point? The Dinos are destroying every alternate run line and total in their path and the poor Hanwha Eagles are their latest victims.
The Dinos have outscored the Eagles 27-4 in the first two games of this series and don’t look to be slowing down anytime soon. Sunday, they face Ee-whan Kim, who has a WHIP of 1.76 to go along with that 6.00 ERA.
If the Eagles get a bit of a reprieve, it’s that Jae-hak Lee has probably been the Dinos worst starter this season. But even then, it’s hard to back them when the hitting has been non-existent.
The Eagles 13-game losing streak will eventually come to an end, but I’m not betting it happens against the Dinos.
Pick: NC Dinos Alternate RL -2.5 (-118)
Samsung Lions (12-17) vs SK Wyverns (10-18)
Probable Pitchers: David Buchanan (3-2, 4.50 ERA) vs Seung-woon Moon (1-1, 5.06 ERA)
The SK Wyverns continue their long climb out of the basement of the KBO standings. They’ve won seven of their last nine games (and the two losses came to the Dinos, and everyone is losing to them right now) and will now attempt to sweep away the Samsung Lions on Sunday.
The Wyverns hand the ball to Seung-woon Moon, who has had an interesting season. The veteran right-hander two best starts have come against those mighty Dinos, and has been roughed up by the Bears, Heroes and Giants.
The Lions counter with import starter David Buchanan. The right-hander is having a solid first year in the KBO and has a solid 1.19 WHIP and is also coming off an impressive start against the Dinos.
There is value with the Lions, who are the overall better hitting team and more importantly in the clutch, hitting .306 with runners in scoring position, compared to the Wyverns .250.
