Key Takeaways
- Trump Media will partner with Crypto.com to launch the "Truth Predict" platform on Truth Social.
- Lawmakers have raised concerns about President Trump and his family's potential involvement in cryptocurrency trading.
- Prediction markets are gaining momentum, with platforms like Polymarket and Kalshi drawing investor interest.
The partnership will create a new product for Truth Social called "Truth Predict" to let users exchange contracts on real-world events, including sports, elections, and more. After the announcement, Trump Media's shares increased more than 6%, showing investors were excited about the project
"We are thrilled to become the world's first publicly traded social media platform to offer our users access to prediction markets," Trump Media chairman and CEO Devin Nunes said in a release.
"Truth Predict will all our loyal users to engage in prediction markets with a trusted network while harnessing our social media platform to provide totally unique ways for users to discuss and compare their predictions."
However, the plan might run into political problems. Ro Khanna, a California politician and vice chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, said he would look into measures prohibiting President Trump and his family from dealing in cryptocurrencies.
The partnership also coincides with a surge in attention toward prediction platforms such as Polymarket and Kalshi, which have gained traction among investors. Crypto.com CEO Kris Marszalek said prediction markets could become a "multi-deca-billion-dollar industry," emphasizing their long-term potential. Truth Predict is expected to enter beta testing before a full U.S. rollout.
Trump nominates Michael Selig as CFTC chair
The expansion of Trump Media into prediction markets comes as President Trump continues reshaping the nation's financial regulatory framework. The President nominated Michael Selig as the next chair of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
Selig, currently general counsel for the CFTC's crypto task force, confirmed his nomination on X, aligning with the administration's goal to make the U.S. "the Crypto Capital of the World." Bloomberg first reported the appointment, which follows months of political friction surrounding earlier candidates.
The nomination of former CFTC Commissioner Brian Quintenz was shelved after pushback from figures including Gemini co-founder Tyler Winklevoss.
