A viral $13 parlay bettor is on track to walk away with nearly $100,000 after he hedged his ticket to win a possible $270,000.

Drew Hirschman, 24, came close to the payout after the Florida Panthers defeated the Edmonton Oilers in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final on Tuesday.

Key Takeaways

  • The maximum hedge payout is still $40,000 below a previous cash-out offer
  • Hirschman’s original ticket is dead following the Oilers’ defeat
  • The highest hedge payout requires the Thunder to win the NBA Finals

Hirschman stood to win $270,761.40 if his five-leg futures parlay cashed. He’d already checked off legs including the Los Angeles Dodgers to win the World Series, the Philadelphia Eagles to win the Super Bowl, and the New York Liberty to win the WNBA Finals, and needed the Oklahoma City Thunder and Oilers to win their respective championships.

DraftKings offered Hirschman a $135,000 payout before the NBA Finals and Stanley Cup Final began. The payout slowly waned after the Indiana Pacers got off to a hot start and the Oilers fell into a 3-2 hole against the Panthers.

The confident bettor, who gained popularity online, repeatedly said that he wouldn’t cash out of the ticket. However, he revealed on Tuesday that he placed a hedge.

“I have hedged,” Hirschman confirmed. “If the Panthers [and] OKC win… 97.5 [thousand] was that number. Panthers-Pacers win, a little bit less, close to 75 [thousand]; happy no matter what. I mean, who’s not happy with 75K?”

The Panthers’ 4-2 series win over the Oilers means that Hirschman’s original ticket is dead. He will win either $97,500 or $75,000 depending on what happens in the NBA Finals.

Thunder favored to complete the hedge

The Panthers won Game 6, with Hirschman in attendance, 5-1. This was the second straight time they ended their season winning the Stanley Cup Final with victory over Edmonton.

Sam Reinhart was the hero of the night, scoring four goals to deliver his team to the title. However, the bigger storyline was Sam Bennett winning the Conn Smythe Trophy as a +2900 pre-series underdog.

Covers betting analyst Josh Inglis won more than $4,000 on Bennett thanks to a $37.50 wager he placed at FanDuel at +11000 odds.

Looking ahead to Thursday’s matchup between the Thunder and Pacers, OKC finds itself as a 6.5-point favorite on the road and -2500 (96.2 percent implied chance) to win the Finals. They were only a 4.5-point favorite on Tuesday morning, but news that Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton was feared to have suffered a calf strain during Game 5 caused the odds to shift.

Haliburton has a personal -2.3 net rating in the Finals, 2.3 points per 100 possessions better than the Pacers’ -4.6. His potential replacement, T.J. McConnell, has a -5.1 Finals net rating but just had 18 points, four rebounds, four assists, and two steals in only 22 minutes his last time on the court.

The Pacers are 1-1 in their building in the Finals, winning Game 3 by nine and losing Game 4 by seven. They were also defeated in Game 5, 120-109.
