Team USA is making a charge for the most gold medals at the Winter Olympics, and oddsmakers have taken note.

FanDuel Sportsbook now has Team USA at +250 to win the most gold medals at Milan Cortina, well down from the +370 they had last week.

Key Takeaways

  • Team USA has five total medals and two are golds.

  • The USA made the mixed doubles curling gold medal game for the first time.

  • Norway is still a heavy favorite to win the most gold medals and the most medals.
Country (top 10 only) Most Gold Medal odds (FanDuel)
Norway -240
USA +250
Germany +2,000
Canada +2,500
Italy +2,500
Sweden +5,500
China +6,500
Netherlands +10,000
Switzerland +10,000
Japan +10,000

(odds as of Monday afternoon)

As of Tuesday, Norway leads all nations with six gold medals at Milan Cortina. Team USA, Japan, and Germany have two.

While sportsbooks usually have very similar odds for different events, there was a noticeable lack of agreement on Winter Olympics odds.

bet365 last week had the USA at +600 to win the most gold medals before the first event began. DraftKings had them at +450, also putting the U.S. well below the +370 FanDuel assigned them.

Using FanDuel’s current +250 odds, Team USA now has an implied 28.6% probability to take home the most first-place finishes – 7.3% higher than what they started with.

The only team ahead of them was Norway on Monday afternoon, who shortened from -210 last Thursday to -240 (70.6%) at the time of writing.

Most Winter Olympic medals odds

Norway -500
USA +490
Italy +2,200
Germany +3,500

(odds as of Tuesday morning)

The host nation, Italy, and Norway lead all countries with 11 medals at the time of writing. That’s despite Italy checking in at +6,000 last Thursday and is why they’re down to +1,500, representing a 4.6% increase in implied probability.

The Italians are four medals clear of Japan, which has seven. The USA is tied for fourth with five medals.

Despite the deficit, Team USA still has plenty of chances to make their way up the podium. They did themselves a huge favor on Monday, as they shockingly upset the reigning gold medalists, Italy, to reach their first-ever mixed doubles gold medal game in curling.

One of the stars of the Winter Olympics, USA men’s figure skater Ilia Malinin, will also be in action for the men’s single skating short program on Tuesday, and the men’s single skating free skating on Friday, where he’ll attempt to collect more hardware for the stars and stripes.

Lindsey Vonn needs multiple surgeries

As Team USA continues to fight for glory at the Winter Olympics, one of its all-time stars is recovering from a horrific crash.

Forty-one-year-old Lindsey Vonn ruptured her left ACL nine days before she was on the mountain to compete in the women’s downhill ski event. After completing successful training runs, she crashed and “sustained a complex tibia fracture that is currently stable but will require multiple surgeries to fix properly,” she wrote in an Instagram post.

“While yesterday did not end the way I had hoped, and despite the intense physical pain it caused, I have no regrets,” she added.
