The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board announced its December sports betting figures, with taxable revenue reaching over $21.8 million. That’s a 69.9% year-on-year decrease compared to December 2023's $72.5 million. While the state recorded $77.1 million in November 2024, December suffered a 71.6% month-on-month decrease.

December's spend also decreased compared to November, declining from $935.5 million to $893.3 million, a 4.5% month-on-month drop. It also showed a 3.5% year-on-year decrease as it failed to top the $925.5 million record set last year.

Total revenue included both retail and online sportsbooks. Retail income generated $222,395, a 95.9% month-on-month decrease compared to November's $5.4 million. Likewise, online book revenue reached over $21.6 million in December, falling by around $50 million compared to $71.6 million in November.

Which Sportsbooks Generated the Most?

Of 17 sportsbook operators, only 10 reported year-on-year revenue rises, and none enjoyed a revenue increase compared to November.

Valley Forge Casino Resort had the highest total December revenue, generating over $14 million, with $13.9 million online and $130,252 in retail. Compared to November, total hold decreased 61.7% month-on-month, falling from $36.8 million. There was also a 64% year-on-year revenue drop, falling from $39.1 million in December 2023.

Following this, Hollywood Casino at the Meadows had the month's second-highest total revenue, producing $92,031 through retail, $7.1 million online, and $7.2 million altogether. In December 2023, the sportsbook saw a fall from $19.2 million, a 62% year-on-year decrease. Likewise, the operator's November 2024 revenue reached $21 million, so December marked a 65.4% month-on-month decline.

In addition, Presque Isle Downs and Casino reported December's highest revenue drop, losing $819,446. This was followed by Hollywood Casino at Penn National, with a $470,150 sports betting deficit. Hollywood Casino at Morgantown, Rivers Casino Pittsburgh, Wind Creek Bethlehem, Parx Shippensburg, and Live! Casino Pittsburgh also reported net revenue losses in December.

Sports Betting Yearly Round-Up

Despite an abysmal December for Pennsylvania sports betting, the Keystone State had quite the year, proving why it's one of the U.S.' largest sports betting markets. In November, Pennsylvania reported new record highs in revenue and handle and announced the launch of two new sportsbooks in the state, Fanatics and Betr.
