Jeremiyah Love and David Bailey are the favorites to win the Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year awards, respectively, now that sportsbook odds are live following the conclusion of the NFL draft.

Key Takeaways

  • Jeremiyah Love has the lowest odds value of any player on offense or defense (+250 at DraftKings).

  • Preseason favorites rarely end up winning Offensive or Defensive Rookie of the Year.

  • EDGE players won five of the last seven DROY awards.

Love, the Arizona Cardinals' new star running back, finds himself leading NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year odds after standout campaigns at Notre Dame.

He’d be the first running back to win the award since Saquon Barkley (+155 at opening) in 2018. Fellow rusher Bijan Robinson was a +250 opening favorite in 2023 but lost out to quarterback C.J. Stroud (+850).

Mendoza is next in line with a low mark of +325 at Caesars. Quarterbacks tend to dominate NFL awards, although the Raiders believe the best-case scenario is that Mendoza gets to sit on the bench and learn from a veteran signal-caller.

Carnell Tate and Jordyn Tyson, the top receivers in the draft, rank third and fourth in odds (+500 and +600 shortest values, respectively). The second first-round running back from Notre Dame, Jadarian Price, and receiver Makai Lemon are the only other players who received odds shorter than +1,000 from at least one top online sportsbook.

Third-round pick Carson Beck has the shortest odds of all Day 2 and Day 3 picks, dropping as low as +15,000 at DraftKings.

Markets are available for players with odds as long as +50,000.

Bailey was the first defensive player selected in the draft. Unsurprisingly, he leads in odds to win the Defensive Rookie of the Year at +450.

Fellow edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr., who slipped to 15th, is second at +550. Five of the last seven award winners played on the edge, although inside linebacker Carson Schwesinger was the recipient last year.

Three Ohio State alumni - Arvell Reese, Sonny Styles, and Caleb Downs - follow and are nearly inseparable, with odds ranging from +650 to +800.

Cornerback Mansoor Delane is the only other defensive player with odds shorter than +1,000. There are 21 players with odds of +3,000 or shorter compared to 14 players in the same odds range on offense.

Linebacker CJ Allen has the shortest odds of all non-first-rounders, wtih a line of +1,500 at FanDuel.

Odds are available for players with odds as long as +20,000.

Rookie of the Year betting history

None of the last six opening favorites for Offensive Rookie of the Year went on to the award, and only two of the last 14 did it.

A similar story has played out on defense. Will Anderson Jr. was the opening favorite and winner in 2023 but is just one of three with odds on record to win in the last 12 years.
