The Big Game gave a big boost to business at online sports betting sites in the Empire State.

Numbers reported Friday by the New York State Gaming Commission show the state’s nine online sportsbooks handled $424.3 million in wagers for the week ended February 12, up 28% from the week before.

Revenue, however, sagged for New York sports betting sites. The gaming commission said gross gaming revenue last week was just $12 million, which was good for a hold of 2.8%. Revenue and win rate for the week ended February 5 had been $41.2 million and 12.4%.

Farewell football

The chief difference between the two weeks was that last week ended with the Super Bowl, and the one before that had no playoff football at all. The weaker revenue haul for the books also suggests a bit of generosity on their part, as Super Bowl week is a good time to acquire new customers with bonuses and boosted odds.

FanDuel was the leader among operators in Super Bowl week handle, with $165.4 million in bets taken and $9.2 million in revenue. DraftKings was in its customary second spot with $150.4 million in wagering and $2.9 million in receipts. Placing third was Caesars Sportsbook was $58.9 million in handle and a $1.3-million loss for the week ended February 12.

The New York State Gaming Commission reported this past week that the state's retail and online sportsbooks handled $123.8 million in bets on the Super Bowl.

FanDuel was again the leader among online sportsbooks in Super Bowl-specific wagering, with $49 million in handle involving the game. DraftKings was second with $41.6 million in Super Bowl-related handle.
